Smile Is this a good time...

To mention the return of a training contract? Yup, no joke. The management brain trust is 95% there on a $20K training contract. Why? The reasoning is that it will root out the people who are not planning to stay! Yup, no kidding. Now that's funny. Btw the " I told you so" is from a ways back...CLEARLY in refence to the end result of clueless garbage truck operator unions trying to out wit FAPA AND STEAL jobs. NOT general comentary on working at F9, Yes, you still got outsmarted, outmanuevered and led around the ring like a little circus pony. Kinda like BB has been doing for, what, SEVEN YEARS in Sec 6? Good lord I hate the IBT, for what they tried to do to us AND for completely failing RAH pilots in contract negotiations.

AA had a training contract in the '80's (1 Yr 10K prorated). So did Sun country. AA was unable to enforce theirs as their PWA said pilots will not pay for training. Sun Country successfully enforced theirs as they had no union (or contract) at the time. Odd to see this type of thing again when so many majors are hiring. FWIW

There's been training contracts throughout the saga of hiring cycles. Regionals have had them. But as you pointed out, so have supplemental, ACMI, what have you. Miami Air, does, (or DID), Gemini Air Cargo was thinking of going to one as many of the newly minted MD11 FO's as well as a CA's were getting scooped up in the "Purple Nugget/Brown Nugget" era at FedEX and UPS. World Airways had one as well.

And for the most part, they've always been a little wishy-washy on being enforced, EXCEPT for World. Those guys DIDN'T mess around on enforcement of theirs.

The 2 big take aways from them are;

1) Simply a "sign of the times"
2) Indicates how "good" a company is to work for, as well as how they treat their employees overall.

"Their house, their rules". Nobody makes anyone show up and sign the thing. Kinda like no body makes you date the hot (yet crazy) chick that can come with a lot of dram afterwards that you KNEW about up front.

It hasn't been too long since the regionals were charging $10k up front for the privilege of attending their training and folks were lining up.

At this point the training contract is just a rumor. Currently new hires are not being asked to sign it, although I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they brought it back. Frontier really doesn't like spending 40 grand to bring on a new pilot just to see them leave.

It is amazing how cyclical this industry and career is. We swing from regionals having pilots pay them to fly, to signing bonuses and retention bonuses. I sure hope the pendulum swings our way for a long time

Well I really doubt they spend anything close to $40k on a newhire and if they want to keep good people then there's a solution that doesn't involve #1 paying well below their competitors, #2 using a training contract to deter turnover, and #3 hoping dangling a quick upgrade carrot will make folks forget the first two things.

Don't even consider this airline.

If you can't get to your first choice, treat that airline like any other regional that it is, milk Frontier for everything then move on to a real airline like SWA.

The oldies and has been are stuck there, unable to get on with a real airline. Don't be part of the miserable good old boys. The sooner you know and realize now the better. Don't waste your time there and tell stories of "it's better blah blah".
