Yea, for a number of years I used to skype my kids from the crew room and read to them before bedtime. It's possible to be still present and involved, but it takes effort.

And shifting gears a little, but still one for the road warriors:

Back in the day, while on a 64 hour layover, I was called out to cover a trip for a captain who became ill. I mobilized and made it to the airport. Made it to the front of the line of security. A moaner, as he boarded the aircraft ask, “What makes all of you so special?” Well sir, we are bound for an airport a mandated curfew airport. If we arrive late, well off to our alternate. I told him that our hotel at the alternate is about 5 minutes from the terminal. So I asked “Where is your car parked, or family gonna retrieve you”? No reply.

I used to FaceTime with my son and watch the same TV shows or movies together…..

I can't imagine the generation before pagers when you had to sit close to a telephone. Not a land line. They were all land lines. And when you left on a trip, you were gone.
