CX500T,
Your post inspired a comic. It was an obvious one, but yea, there's the flip side to our live.
And I'm a little jelly anyway cause as a commuter I pretty much have to bid lines.
Thx

captjns,
That's awesome! I can be as guilty as anybody for sinking into a level of dismissive cynicism during our workday, especially when dealing with company / operational /ATC / PAX issues. Thankfully, the average person reading this on this forum has a corner office with a stunning view at least a few times during their work week.

It's Monday, so here we are!

Excellent cartoon! I enjoy my downloaded shows on my iPad. Perfect reason why my Bose Noise Cancelling Blue Tooth Heat Sets is and item in my personal MEL. (1) required (1) required for dead heading! Great for crying tots, boisterous passenger, impressed with their loud voices, and if sitting close to the galley.

Was this inspired by the old Bill Hicks joke?

Pigpen,
I vaguely remembered him and had to look him up to be reminded of who exactly he was. Now that I looked him up, I'm reminded of how funny he was! I wish I could say yes that it was inspired by him. I just wanted to poke fun at the checked-out parents in first class with a baby, so I came up with the most absurd scene I could imagine. In my defense, I have had FA's laugh out loud at that comic. So, mission accomplished.

And today:

Well in fairness, in this era, it is possible to live comfortably on $200-300K, even if the wife isn't an MD. Pretty easy even if the wife has just a normal job.

That will also vary depending on where you live, and student loan debt. Mine was finally paid off (when I was 46) and it was a mortgage payment.

And no, I didn't go to Riddle and finance everything. Engineering school, mid pack as far as cost, and not eligible for in state tuition at any state school.

I do pretty well but I was fortunate to get into the housing market 25 years ago, and wasn't looking at 4x year 2 FO pay to buy a 1200sqft 3/2 on a postage stamp lot.

Sure, but where you live is a choice by and large. At most legacies you can usually find a relatively affordable locale that's not too long of a drive to the airport. Or commute.

Student loan is a different topic I guess. Obviously try to avoid or minimize, especially in this era of inflated education costs. If that's not in the cards for whatever reason then you might get stuck with some. I would have for sure gone to Hometown State U and lived at home if I hadn't got a scholarship.

I have mixed feelings on Ramsey, but if I was young with a lot of student debt I would go with his program to aggressively pay it down and defer lifestyle gratification to later. The sooner you free up your cash flow the sooner you can start building wealth for yourself.

Also in 2026 I think we're in a reality where dual income household is kind of the default. If Mom is going to stay home with the kids, either forever or take a career intermission, that's a choice that you're going to have to balance against other things. It's no longer 1955.
