It’s not straight forward because of relative base seniority but my rough math puts it at about 640 seniority number as the bottom ca with a 20 pct shrink. We lose more ejet than crj captains because ejet is more Jr. May force some ca displacement to the ejet side. It’s a mess no matter what and this number is sheer fantasy. We know nothing. The public stance is stated in the investor call. JO would rather have a reduced hour MOU than to furlough.

It looks like seniority number 700 and below would reduce us by 98 captains. 47 from IAH, 36 from DFW, 2 from IAD and 13 from SDF. Likely would cause base closing at SDF or jr assignments to that base. Possibly some reassignment to IAH for CRJ guys but that would be expensive for the company. I don't know if downgrades have to work globally or if they can do it by base. The contract 23-J-4 does mention out of seniority downgrades. 16-A says the seniority list is primary unless otherwise noted. 23-D-4 covers voluntary displacements - hence why you have a voluntary option in your standing bid. You can bid to be voluntarily displaced to FO. After the voluntary displacements - then the displacements occur in reverse seniority order. So if a displacement bid is announced your standing bid is paramount. This is all premature but a good research exercise. We have no idea about furloughs or displacements and the "rumor" of 100 CA displacements is just that - an unsubstantiated rumor.

550 news was encouraging but seems to indicate GoJet is done. We could have an ORD or EWR base eventually.
I guess in a post covid world the drink/snack station is a non starter in the 550. So there’s the 550 lite. At any rate that was the brightest spot for pilots.
Not that we will be asked but I’m a hard no on a reduced credit MOU if downgrades are on the table.

Sorry, I know this is a dumb question and relates to scope etc but: why would United, after I thought Kirby recently indicated they wanted to get away from the 50-seaters, want to retrofit the 700’s to a 50 seat config? Why not just continue to operate as configured?

He did mention a staffing “problem” if demand doesn’t pick up. Downgrades could save payroll money without furloughs.
550 news was encouraging but seems to indicate GoJet is done. We could have an ORD or EWR base eventually.

Downgrades would save money as soon as the downgrades happen, which would be before October.
That's why Express Jet, Air Wisconsin, and others have started downgrade bids.
Clearly, we ARE highly overstaffed on both fleet types.
For me, listening to this call was just a waste of time, since I basically knew most of that information already by observing the whole industry.

Don’t believe downgrades before October would comply with the CARES act. Specifically the “no changes in pay rate” part. That is beyond a shadow of a doubt a change in pay rate. Unless of course the federal government chooses not to hold large companies accountable yet again.
