Can anybody tell me the monetary difference between living in base versus commuting? Is there a difference? How feasible is earning 40k gross first year living on base picking up as many trips as one can? Thanks

If you live in base you will be able to pick up more flying and not spend as much for a crashpad/hotel when you inevitably have to commute in a day early or a day after you finish a trip/reserve. Now that 200% pay is returning that will help (CRJ guys at least.)

In times past, very easy. I made around $60k my first year not including the bonus just from picking up 200 and 300%. If you were on property right now as a new hire, I’d expect at least a few months of reserve on the crj side. 175 side, I have no idea what their reserves are like. We don’t really have a clear picture on what the next few months will be like so it’s hard to answer the question looking forward. Also, never commute to a regional. Our base pay is awful and you’d be operating in the negative with having to get a crash pad/hotel every night.

I never went below the minimum. There’s ways to work a schedule like dropping trips during SAP, or putting stuff up on the trade boards to free up time to pick up premium trips.

Hey I mentioned it was a thing of the past and not to expect to just straight up drop a trip and pick something up like it’s nothing. It was a science. You gotta plan it perfectly.
