This is hilarious because you have to ask the question:

"You'll be a captain in less than the 3 yrs right? Now in any scenario as a captain can you ever see yourself holding phoenix with all those PHX lifers?" Obviously not.

So in all reality the only one who should give a crap at this stage would be a lifer who has had it somewhat "good" for the last 20-30 yrs. Or perhaps the random FO who never went to the left seat and has some PHX QOL on lock.

I was only asking because of Airways eventually pulling out of PHX. I heard American doesn't want them flying out of PHX anymore. Thought there was a drawdown over the next 3 years.
NO! I AM NOT TRYINF TO START ANY NEW RUMORES!

If so, that would leave a pretty big hole in service to cities that have fairly high loads. Not to mention SW would just take over with little or no competition in PHX. But who knows…only time will tell.

They are ? When? where did you get that one? By the way it was minimum 5yr notification with PHX airport authority. So with that, you're already way off.

Not trying to start rumors however you're posting pure conjecture.

That's an opinion written article bud. Not using facts. Just opinions.

Isn't this forum all opinion and conjecture??? My questions are asked expecting someone's informative opinion. I'd just like to hear from pilots who have been at Mesa longer than me and who might also be more informed. Nothing is definitive until a Press Release and even those are met with skepticism. Thank you for your contributions to this thread.

In any any case, it is an opinion article. However your right in that articles' are saying "3" for contract in hubs. Now the question is how many years for pullout, notification of cancellation and or intent of pullout? How about the idea of a mere drawdown in these select hubs? I think what you would see would be complete drawdown of select CRJ200 routes that can be service by CRJ900s. Drawdown on B757 runs that can be serviced with A321s or serviced from LAX. They will trim the fat, however to leave phoenix vulnerable would obviously pave the way for the scenarios in the article below.

Here's a start:
Southwest Airlines possible new sponsor for US Airways Center?

PHX relevancy will always be hard to argue and will get harder as US/AA move forward in the merger. However, I don't see any of this happening overnight. You'll never touch phoenix as a 3 year captain, give it up.

Hurry up and wait. I think it should be a hard rule that upgrade/base awards be announced at least a month in advance. A friend of mine put the Standing Bid info into an Excel spreadsheet and figured how it should work out in like 20 minutes. These things could be done near instantaneously...

As for Phoenix and its future relevancy, I agree that it's wedged between two major powerhouse hubs that aren't going anywhere soon, but LAX is maxed out on capacity, so one guy I met theorized Phoenix would continue as essentially an overflow hub. And hey, if planes are pretty full, why not?
