I don't follow this logic. They are the only ones with outstanding options? This is a United order, not a Skywest order. United will own these airplanes; the initial 10 that are firm, as well as the 18 options.
No carrier has been named to operate this new order. So at this point it's all conjecture. Could they go to Skywest? Sure. Could they go to Mesa? Sure.
Skywest DID firm up options for 8 E175's to be operated under the Alaska brand. Is that what you're referring to?

Why are 175's only now the hot new airplane? They've been available since 2004.
It's a little early for speculation but I wonder if these will simply be added to IAH rather than starting up a whole new base.

United originally ordered 30 175s with options for an additional 40. They are just converting 10 of those 40 options with this announcement. Like a previous poster said, this is a United order, not a Skywest or Republic order.

10 are for sure UAL, and I suspect they will go to Mesa. The other 18 are most likely Skywest birds. The second link I had posted had the Skywest ticker symbol listed. Here's the text of that link:

Embraer wins 50 firm orders worth $2.6 billion
Mon Jun 15, 2015 8:16am EDT

PARIS (Reuters) - Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer (EMBR3.SA) announced 50 firm orders for its narrow-body jets at the Paris air show on Monday worth a total of $2.6 billion.

The orders, which also included dozens of options for more jets, came from airline customers United Continental Holdings (UAL.N) unit United Airlines, SkyWest (SKYW.O) and Colorful Guizhou, and aircraft leasing company Aircastle (AYR.N).

Doesn't sound desirable- I know I'd be better off living in base... Will need to look into affordable places near the airport . I'm not at all familiar with the DFW area
Uh no. 90+% of dfw are 3 and 4 day trips

Before the Majors start killing their own feed they'll take from the military , expat guys, and other LCCs first. Wouldn't you think?? Tons of expat guys looking for a slot at the majors even though it'd be a pay cut for the first 5 years..I hope everyone gets hired though of course.
