Does anyone know how I can stop paying the buffoons in our "union" the 2% of my wages I have to pay presently? Can I say I'm religiously opposed to unions and get out of that contribution? I'm being very serious.
I've worked for another ALPA carrier before and I actually felt like I was getting my money's worth. But the people in Mesa's ALPA chapter/MEC/grievance committee? I feel like I'm paying a troop of clowns 2% of my paycheck to drive around in circles in a tiny car.
Every single time I have ever even attempted to seek assistance from this ALPA chapter on anything, I have been met with derision, disdain, and incompetence. Meanwhile, every time I have simply called our chief pilots/management directly, they've actually listened to me and bent over backwards to help me out.
Our union is an effing scam--I'd rather give my 2% to AI and JO directly--I'm not joking at all. I never thought I'd say this in my lifetime, but I would honestly rather deal with management directly than even attempt to involve this ALPA chapter in anything having anything to do with my job here.

Everytime I have contacted this ALPA chapter about anything--even basic stuff like simple questions about contractual interpretations--they treat me like total dog ****, and basically act like I'm an idiot for even attempting to violate their solitude (nevermind the fact that my dues pay them to sit in an office in Phoenix nicer than most plastic surgeons' offices).
I've served in higher-level posts at an ALPA-represented airline in the past. I can safely say that we need to de-certify here. When the average line pilot would rather deal with AI/CC directly than even involve this union in ANYTHING, I think that's a decent sign it's time to let the ALPA cartel go. We have the power to do that, we just need the cajones.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe pull a SkyWest, they seem to be doing just fine without ALPA.

I have personaly witnessed Chuck defend individual pilots to other managers, and he goes out of his way to help us. You couldn't ask for a better chief pilot, unlike that bozo in IAD.

2 reasons I wouldn't want to go union free: 1) employment insurance, i.e. if stuff hits the fan and I get in trouble there's someone that will potentially help 2) if JO didn't have to worry about a union the company would steamroll us. They do what they can get away with. A union minimizes that.
As gravy as SkyBest says things are, internally they speak of the company overworking them, rescheduling them too much, and other seemingly small "contract" violations that their student council can't really do much for. That company keeps them just happy enough and pays them well enough to keep a union off property. But there are some bad stories out there where union representation could have made things a lot better.
I wouldn't be opposed to another union though. It looks like we are getting almost entirely new union leadership anyway so maybe things will change. Just need AH and our horrible lawyer to leave. But I'm not holding my breath.

Look at Go-Jet as well. However I do not care to stay an Alpa member myself. I believe you can pay a maintenance fee to remove your self from the cartel.
With that said, I have always found dealing with management directly to always be the best course of action. I've only been with Mesa post bankruptcy, and I have heard all the horror stories of how things used to be. However, I was never exposed to any of that, and the Mesa I know today, is not what people have described to me in the past. As a pilot, everyone that I have direct contact with does not come across as wanting to screw me over, the opposite in fact. Even J.O. has been pleasant to talk to in e-mail. I don't believe any one at Mesa wants to screw pilots over, they just want to run their business the best they can.
As far as OUR Alpa reps helping you, I've heard multiple times from pilots doing carpet dances, it was never the company being the dickheads, but OUR ALPA REPS drilling the pilots, instead of them helping. A close friend of mine experienced that, and Chuck protected him, despite the REP who was supposed to represent him suggesting he be fired as he was a few days short of his one year anniversary.
And to be fair, I have also heard stories of the same reps helping our pilots, but it appears they only want to help the pilots that they personally know. It is not really much of a concern anymore as the resignations come in.
The new F.O. rep for Dallas/Houston seems like a decent guy, he is also the jumpseat chair, and if I needed help with something, I would probably contact him first.

For those who have been around a while, they will tell you how important ALPA is at Mesa. Yes, right now you have great CP's. If that were to change, you would see real quick how bad you need representation.
I won't argue, AH needs to go.

why are their less lines in Dfw for November. Either that or they jacked up the reserve buffers.
