That's all fine and good. The problem I have is comparing CA wages to FO wages. If you are somehow twistingnanlessor contract into a better one because of current upgrade times, I think you are setting yourself up for more disappointment. Allegiant is not even in the ballpark of the other discussed carriers. Add in mx issues and the way pilots are treated and it sounds like an outright dumpster fire. I'm glad the early upgrade worked out for you, but consider upgrade times in overall compensation calculations is just promoting low pay.
But of course I say this as someone who lives 10 minutes from G4's largest domicile and commutes to the lovely city of Houston for my current gig.

What's wrong with Houston. I assume you are comparing it with Florida? I forgot how great Florida is with all the low wages, poor schools, worst health care in the nation, sex predators in every community and crime and on every corner. Just going to the gas station for milk is like driving in Kabul. Sure Houston has the same crime issues but at least it's confined to certain areas of the city.

Lived in both. Houston a 100 times better. You can actually raise a family here vs Florida. Sure go to east Houston and yes its just as bad if not worse. But you have pockets in the city where you can live without looking over your shoulder. Florida down right awful. Do a predator search in any zip code and you will find dozens or hundreds in Florida. I have one in a 5 mile radius.
Orlando got the other half of Katrina. I love Florida its a lot of fun but raising a family there is a scary thought.

I could always move to Houston but I dread the thought of moving for Mesa. I am junior CA and I would rather just leave if I can UNLESS we opened a domicile in Austin or San Antonio, then I would be all down to go back home.

I was speaking of the commute. Houston has nice parts and not so nice parts of town just like anywhere else, but the relentless beating it takes from thunderstorms and flooding makes it extremely difficult for commuting purposes. Go home leg on my last two trips has been into IAH with the TAF reading "TSRA 2SM" and not knowing if we are going to make it in, much less make it out on a commute home. I guess I am spoiled because previously I commuted in and out of PHX, which has virtually unlimited CAVUK weather.

I was hired when every regional was very selective still, including Mesa. It wasn't a single phone interview but multiple ones. I was hired right after the bankruptcy. I never had to justify going to Mesa, the job was a million times better than what I was doing at the time. The situation I am in today I could never predict would happen. Priorites change, needs change. Being locked into a career based on seniority is the worst thing I ever decided to do.
Is it too late to not be "locked into"? My encouragement, look for something additional where you are paid based on your value and merits. There is plenty of downtime with any flying work to build other opportunities. Why not have the best of both worlds?
