I'm sure we've all suffered from "random acts of leadership" in our careers. Definitely a reminder to all about letting the investigation run it's course before pulling the trigger.

Secretary of the Navy apparently exaggerated claims against Captain Crozier

Says he exaggerated the number of folks cc'ed on the email. The addressees identified by the article appeared to be mostly the right people, but there's still no way it should have gone out unclas...
But the media, as usual, is wrong... what the journalist didn't know is that all flag officers and some O6's have executive assistants, aides, and secretaries who read their emails and prioritize them for the boss, senior flags will have other folks who can access their emails as well. So if you cc ten senior O's that could easily get you to thirty individuals with access... and being unclas made it easy to get a copy out of the building (without violating too many federal laws).
If the CO had sent it classified and it got out anyway, oh well that's not negligence on his part, that's espionage on someone else's part.

“The Navy's top admiral has recommended that Capt. Brett Crozier should be reinstated as the commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, weeks after he was fired by the Navy's former acting secretary, a U.S. official said Friday.”
