Default VSP back for FY09?

The rumor mill is starting to put out some good info about VSP not only coming back for FY09, but the money will get better and, thank god, 11M will be allowed to get out.

Anyone got any other info?

I haven't heard any rumors recently about FY09. I just remember them saying that FY08 was going to be a wait and see kind of year and that if they still needed more cuts then FY09 would be the year of big cuts. This was all rumors about 6-8 months ago though. It's been unusually quiet recently.

So, where are these rumors coming from? Sounds like we'll have to wait for congress to decide whether to fund the Chief of Staff's request for more money to keep bodies in the AF. Until that decision is made, I can't imagine that AFPC would have any plans to cut more 11Ms. Especially in light of the "Palace Freeze" coments made at last year's ATA.

Depending on the results of the upcoming election, I totally see FY09 being a "floodgates open" scenario. I don't think this one is very far fetched at all in the realm of rumors. A lot of folks with crossed fingers. Of course, actual airline mergers in 08 may temper or aggravate the outflux.

Too bad we 11B and 11F dudes never see the light of day when it comes to this stuff. Oh yeah, they need us for the MQ-1/9 and ALOs.

11M's do our share to feed the UAV/AMLO belly.

The rumors are exactly that, rumors. I have a friend who works AFPC and as we all know, sometimes the "inside" network is more acurate than the official word.

About people getting non-vol'd to the predator, that sucks no matter what 11? you are.

Dear god let me miss that bullet!

I wonder how many 11Ms are keeping their fingers crossed right now. Anybody know when Force Shaping 09 will be announced? I'm assuming June or July?

We probably won't know anything until congress approves the supplemental budget. Without supplemental money...AF will be forced to stick to their original drawdown plan. With more money added by congress...I doubt there will be any VSP. SECAF and Chief were just in front of congress last week asking for more money. The article is in a separate post "$ or people."
