Pilot had finished the FRS and waiting in a poole to start fleet squadron. He was offered a good deal to take a jet down to Florida for a bowl game flyover. On problem, I hear the guy has flown 2 hours in the last 80 days with some sim time. Launched out as a two ship when he received a canopy light. He returned with no issues but the ceiling was so low they had to go missed approach. For one reason or another, the didn't go missed with his flight lead. They are calling it Controlled Flight Into Terrain.

Is this really the forum to speculate on what may or may not have happened? Has the AMB concluded or the JAGMAN been released? Unreal!

I don't know...no more than sitting around the ready room speculating. As long as *certain* information is not being released - if we never talked about a mishap before the AMB was released then we would be hurting ourselves.
Something not related to the mishap but that I find curious is that this guy just made Captain the same month and he had already finished the FRS? The Harrier FRS must be doing MUCH better than in past years!

Are you Serious? I am not on either board nor have I talked to anyone on the board. This is information that is widely known and there is nothing wrong with discussing it. Quit drinking the Kool Aide and lighten up.

Ok Francis, I'm sure that his 30/60/90 day flight times are there for public consumption as was the circumstances of the mishap with which you seem to say are widely known. Widely known and reported are certainly different in many respects. My only point here was I don't think a public forum is the place to discuss specific points that may or may not have been causal factors to a mishap. Is it a ready room discussion, surely it is Gump, that said, this isn't a ready room IMHO.

Imagine the young Marine's parents reading a thread on how their son died before an investigation was complete.

First - let's not let this thread go down the road of the regular regional thread - both of you. Enough with the "lighten up" and the "OK Francis". You know both of those comments are just poking someone in the eye and meant to escalate.

There is nothing in the post that the parents don't already know. The is no priviledged information released. It is suppose to be professional pilots discussing publicly released information. There are certainly some things that shouldn't be discussed initially - I don't think this meets the criteria - others will disagree.

If a couple of military aviators can't discuss (or disagree) with some information then we are surely in trouble. Don't let this thread (or forum) look or sound like the Regionals please. Btw - I would like to think of this forum as our virtual ready room - with some constraints!

So explain to me how a conclusion of CFIT as the cause of the crash would be "publicly released information" if the accident report has not been released yet.

The same way that you decide who the "they" are that are calling it CFIT TBone. An airplane hit the ground and the guy didn't (try to) eject. I can see how it is being discussed as CFIT. Btw - CFIT wouldn't be the "cause" - it would be the result. Something else *caused* the mishap.

Valid...mis-speak on my part.

However until the accident report is released, it's all speculation...regardless of how logical the conclusion may seem or how much it seems to be "common knowledge." It is inappropriate for dudes who identify themselves as military pilots to speculate in public about the cause of a mishap. While this is a pilot forum, this is not the same as being in the ready room/squadron bar where you know exactly who you are/are not speculating to. And it's a complete foul to talk publicly about things like his currency...the presumption when that is brought up, especially by a another dude who identifies himself as a harrier pilot, is that his currency was a factor in the mishap. Again, that would be speculation.

I'm with BDGERJMN on this one.
