OK, I finally figured out what was going on. Lesson learned: keep on top of the MTF if you want this done right--you have to spell it out for them. After I gave the AF the standard month and a half to process my medical, I started calling in and e-mailing recall ops to see what the hold up was. I finally got someone to check up on this after more than two weeks of calling/e-mailing had gone by. The clinic that did my physical (8 July) never sent it to Randolph. It turns out they had a couple simple questions they needed to ask me to complete the process (which took two minutes) but they never gave me a call to ask me those questions. They also were missing the lab results for two of the many tests required for the physical. It turns out Public Health forgot to order those. Now I have to wait 7-10 days for the lab results to come back, who knows how long for the final product to go to Randolph, and then up to thirty days for Randolph to look at it. I don't think I'll be making the 19 Oct AOC course. Don't assume anything in this process. You have to spell out every step to people who don't seem to know how to read or do their job, and then you have to keep calling and e-mailing and hoping you get someone who might have the interest/know-how to answer your question. Typical AF. Someone please remind me why I just volunteered myself for three more years of this runaround nonsense...

Are you sure about this? I had heard that NW/Delta was considering this "Title 10" AD orders and did not count toward the 5 yr limit. Would hate to take 4.3 yrs of AD orders and find out I went over the 5 yr limit. What happens then?

What an individual airline does regarding the orders is not necessarily the same as what is required by law. Any decision that an airline makes today that is over and above what is required by law can be rescinded tomorrow or next year as economic conditions change.

I agree with you 100% to not take the risk of going over your 5 year limit...that's the extent that the law protects you and beyond that you are in no-mans land with your inidividual airline. I have not gotten my EAD orders in hand yet, but if it does not specifically say "exempt from USERRA 5 year limit" then I am going to assume my MLOA clock is running...

It ain't over 'til its over.
Heads up: Be aware that you need to constantly check with your finance folks upon your return to AD. I got my leave and earnings statement yesterday and my housing allowance was virtually nil. Turns out that someone in finance had me listed as being billeted on base! The only justification I could think of was I obtained a P.O. Box on base as I anticipated a lot of TDY, but that's just a guess. Oh, and they had lost my folder of paperwork I filled out for them when I arrived six weeks ago, but I lucked out and the airman had not deployed yet, so they found it.
Break, break: I asked about my aeronautical orders from the folks at Langley that forwarded the paperwork on 21 July to the air staff and AFPC and was informed that it could be because the air staff may not have received EAD orders. (I have a non-flying assignment.) I immediately scanned the requested orders and she should be forwarding them to the air staff. Until then I am not getting any flight pay: it's not even a listed sub-category entitlement on the leave and earnings statement. Patience is a virtue!

Actually your SOI should be no surprise if you know what your Assignment AO rec. was. The board normally is just approving what folks recommend. It spells out the details: What the position is, time commitment, base. It will also give any limfacs if there are. If your medical has not come back it may say pending approval of that. The same for Aero Orders. The SOI is just a "job offer". If you accept then the process continues: training dates, orders, etc. Hope this helps and hope you get something you wanted. Process is painfully slow hang in there.
