I would check it out with each branch. I am applying for an Air Force slot and took my physical with a Navy Flight Clinic and their requirements are a little different and each have their own data recording system. The main problem is their data systems can't talk to each other and one physical can't be reviewed by several departments unless somebody is willing to manually enter the data in the applicable system. In short, the Air Force can't review a Navy physical in the Air Force system and the Navy personnel don't have access to enter it into the Air Force system.

Colorbindness has nothing to do with 20/20 vision. There are numerous threads on APC that cover colorblindness and the FAA requirements thoroughly. The USN still uses the FALANT (though you may have to request it), but is moving towards the more standard colorplates for its' colorvision testing.

I've only taken the color plates once in my 17 or so fligh physicals. The one time was last year due to the fact that somebody walked off with the FALANT test Just went missing one day. I've always had problems with the color plates but the corpsman said I passed it. If I had failed, I would have just asked for the FALANT, easy test.

Bunk - on my last physical they couldn't get to FLANT to work and I told them to call and get another over there or else I would just be talking to the Doc and I'd do the test when they fixed the machine.
as far as plates - I've used different types of plates during my FAA 1st class physicals. The last one I took had Xs and Os instead of numbers.

FALANT has been/was the standard in Naval Aviation. I'm surprised - very surprised - that you have never run across it before. You and I have had physicals at most of the same locations and I've NEVER taken a color plate test in the military. Like I mentioned though - they seem to be wanting to phase the FALANT out of service.

Interesting, because after almost 30 years of military flying, both AF as well as ANG, I've never, not once, taken a FALANT test. It's been all the Pseudoisochromatic color plate test, which doesn't matter if it's letters or numbers, because all you're trying to do is identify what's in the dots.

As far as it not mattering whether it is numbers or Xs and Os - it matters to me a lot since I've never been able to pass the numbers test but have no trouble with the Xs and Os.

Well since you got out in 1956, things have changed.
