So you're saying the guy who lied about his background should have lied about it some more? I disagree.

I think the underlying theme in this thread is: integrity.

As pilots we need to trust that there is a high degree of integrity on the line in general, and especially across the cockpit. The lack of integrity is a threat to safety, and we can't afford that. What do you think about a pilot that would overspeed, overtemp, or exceed other limits in the jet and not say anything to maintenance or the outbound crew? That's an integrity issue.

In pilot interviews, a common marker for a line of questioning is that past performance is a good indicator of future performance. That's what's behind the "tell me about a time when...." questions. I would suggest that integrity in one's personal life would be carried into one's professional life, and that's what HR looks for too. It's important to be honest about strengths and weaknesses both to yourself, and to the person across the cockpit.

Sorry to rant, but the underlying message of the ALPA magazine article was a good one. Too bad it went so horribly horribly wrong.

Rant Out!

I'm not making a blanket statement that any medication should ground a dude forever, however there needs to be an evaluation period first. I don't know call it 3-6 months? That's really up to someone smarter than me to decide. Let a guy go on head meds, but ground him during that period. If it helps and he exhibits no side effects, then he goes back to flying and stays on meds.

It's the guy that flips out on his meds while behind the controls that concerns me.
Isn't there going to be a one year period for monitoring BEFORE released back to fly (or something like that) ?

The "experts" are the physicians, psychiatrists and psycologists that convinced the FAA. They are not to be confused with the characters babbling away on this forum, many of whom are in serious need of either meds themselves or at the very least a comprehensive evaluation for them.

Can we please stay on topic? I thought this thread was about making TM's life miserable; sheesh!

Has this guy quit or been fired yet?

Not sure on that, but outside of Eagle it seems no moves will be made until the crown of thorns and the crucifix are completed.

I'll be the first to say that ALPA Safety, Security, CIRP and other programs benefit the membership. No doubt about that and are worth your dues money. In my view, the organization needs a major internal overhaul, modernization and re-structuring. Leave the programs in place that bring value to the membership and either eliminate or re-organize the rest of the organization to meet the needs of today's labor environment.

'Nuff said.....back to the driving range.

Actually, the downtown building was sold years ago and everything was moved to Herndon, with two stipulations. ALPA kept the 8th Floor in perpetuity, and Bill; the doorman who has been there forever, could not be fired. He's a good man.

To pay the bills, half of the 8th floor was sold off about 18 months ago.

Sad.

Yes. According to reports, it will be administered through the individual airline HIMS programs and the pilot will have to demonstrate a calendar year of properly calibrated dosages before he can get a special issueance.

There are a ton of guys out there with serious depression. Look at this industry and what has happened to everyone. You don't think guys are flying around in bad shape?

The program sounds good. I think the parameters may keep a lot of guys away. How do you survive financially and keep insurance for your family?

This will be interesting.

I think the boat on that one not only left the dock, but was halfway around the world. He might as well have finished the trip.

Maybe he is a 'Virtual F-16 Pilot' in a Virtual NJ ANG unit...

Sad Story. This guy needs help.

Would it be proper to say this topic has gone viral?
This is on a good bit of the major pilot web boards.
