Granted we're talking about serious personality issues. Seeing a councelor for marraige, death, etc., obviously doesn't count. Not to say those stresses don't contribute to the risk management, but Tim is playing a whole different ball game in this regard.

Does anyone have a copy of this article? I threw mine out as usual and it's been removed from the alpa pdf file.

I am not saying anyone should accept his apology. This guy was a complete idiot and deserves all the attention he is getting. Dont get me wrong, all the stuff that people created has been hilarious. At what point does it go from making this guy feel shame to bullying? This guy will prob never sit in the flight deck, and rightfully shouldn't.
For the most part WE AS PILOTS and those in the military community have done what should have been done, expose the pilot for his fraud and lies, make him feel shame in what he did, and for the most part he will prob never fly for an airline again.
I am just asking what the limit is in "destroying" Tim as a person.

A couple people mentioned suicide... I would be more worried about something like 705 where he hurts other people (specifically, as many people as his embraer holds). If he lied about all this crap you have no idea what other flying qualifications/history/experience he lied about. Worse, if he is deranged enough to lie to the extent that he did, you don't know what else he is capable of. I'm sure NO ONE could've expected in their wildest imaginations what Calloway ended up doing. Not saying Martins will do what Calloway did, because that is pretty damn horrific, but my point is that no one knows what people like him are capable of... and I don't like that uncertainty/unreliability in a person controlling airplanes full of people.

At Last.....
Whats even more ridiculous about this than the guy's lies are that ALPA wrote a story on him without ever checking out any of it. I'd more embarrassed to have ALPA as a union than this pilot as a fellow coworker.
There will ALWAYS be people who lie and cheat. But there doesn't have to be a union so spineless that they let it happen through ineptitude.

It will interesting to see what comes out of Capt. Prater's office, if they have the guts to admit they screwed up so badly. We'll probably see a lame excuse blaming a staff member "who has been counseled".
In all my years of being associated with ALPA, this has to be the biggest embarrassment and the best reason to do away with 535 Herndon Parkway and everyone who works in that building !
G'riddance Mr. Prater !

The ALPA mag can go for sure. And perhaps Jan Steenblik can go as well. But using this as a justification to dump ALPA is WAY over the top.

What are your ideas? There is no question that the Tim Martins episode served partly to expose some serious systemic problem at ALPA National. Can and should all blame be placed on Prater and Sluys? How would kicking Steenblik out solve longstanding and perhaps even intractable problems?
