A Military Poser in the ALPA Magazine?

It looks like Timothy James Martins of New York holds a CL65 type, with the obvious limitation of PIC, since he does not hold an ATP.
Since he paid for the type, and not an airline, he wouldn't get an SIC anything, unless he wanted to pay for that
Date of Issue: 3/2/2008
COMMERCIAL PILOT
AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE LAND, AIRPLANE MULTIENGINE LAND, INSTRUMENT AIRPLANE
Type Ratings
C/CL-65 C/EMB-145 C/SF-340
Limits
ENGLISH PROFICIENT.THIS CERTIFICATE IS SUBJECT TO PILOT-IN-COMMAND LIMITATION FOR CL-65 .
SF-340 EMB-145 SIC PRIVILEGES ONLY.
SF-340 EMB-145 CIRC. APCH. - VMC ONLY.

I agree, and I think, so did American Eagle. It was reported, either in this thread, or the one that got closed down, that he had been taken off the 2 day trip that he was on.
If even half of this is true, he needs his medical pulled until he can prove that he's not dangerous, and his ATP should be suspended (assuming he has one) under the "good moral character" clause until such time that his "character" improves... maybe a month or so? [edit; I see he does not hold an ATP]

I would find all of those morally questionable. We need to be careful about throwing a rock through that glass house as many, myself included have made mistakes and done things we morally regret.
Medical? Now that is a completely different story. He does need a review there.

As an FFDO with his propensity towards delusions of granduer I would be very nervous having him in possesion of a weapon. This guy obviously has a mental issue going on and is not a run of the mill storyteller. He knew this story was being published by ALPA magazine, and could have easily stopped the story to keep a low profile and continue his storytelling indefinately. Instead he saw even greater glory with his name in lights, not realizing the consequences of his possible "outing" shows very poor judgement skills and I have no doubt he should be grounded.

I don't agree with the good moral character clause.. How many pilots have had or are having affairs. ie Adultery. Have bended in the gray area of what they pay on their taxes. Claiming residency in a non-tax state. ie FL, or TX while living in another state; I could go on. I think the list would be rather long.

What it really means is that convicted criminals cannot hold an ATP. They have some leeway as to what crimes, parking tickets won't do it but convictions for drug dealing, violence, theft, etc will be a problem for you. I think they also have the leeway to decide that you are reformed eventually

Didn't read all 28 pages but isn't it illegal to impersonate a military officer or use it on applications etc?

First, after a crappy week, just watching this "slow-motion trainwreck" has made me feel better. I'll grant you you- that's not right (or good), but I'll take what I can get.
Second- I've met, known, or heard of (from people I trust) of so many individuals who are compulsive liars. Most of them led fairly impressive lives, good jobs, nice families, business success, etc. Ironically, most of them NEVER had any real reason to lie at the levels they did. I just don't get it.
One looks around. Volunteer Fireman- I did that and I respect that, airline pilot, I respect that as well...so why embellish? I also understand why those who are qualified and doing the jobs he claimed to be doing are understandably [edit; "upset"]. Who knows.....but hey, watching this trainwreck is going a long way to making my week go by, if not better, at least faster.

The "Good Moral Character" clause does not mean what most people think it means. The FAA has no mandate, ability or authority to pass moral judgments on things like adultery, homosexuality, unofficial lying, etc..
