My question exactly! I'm in this year group and would sure like to know before doing something crazy like taking VSP when I don't even have a job lined up. I never gave much thought to getting out. My commitment lines up, so there is no fear of a remote or bad next assignment.

P.S. As far as all the attacks on those taking VSP and getting out. How is it disloyal to the Air Force for signing up for something they want you to do?

Just a thought!

When people decide that it's time for them to get out, I just say "thanks for your service".

Just by taking the oath, you're all ready doing more for your country than the vast majority of the rest of the American citizen population.

Once your ADSC is up...you've paid your dues, and if you wanna move on to something else in your life have at it...and thanks for your service.

It means nothing. Approval authority has been taken away from your unit during these Force Shaping programs and approval comes from the Chief of Staff. If it were up to WG/CC's to approve/disapprove packages during Force Shaping, the AFPC would never separate the numbers they need because most commanders won't approve it. My WG/CC disapproved my paperwork last week. I'll let you know if it mattered in a few weeks.
Just one more tool out there. I heard about a guy whose wing commander disapproved the PC and AFPC disapproved. The unit either really liked him, or needed him so they got involved. The story goes, the governor got involved and called AFPC.

True? I don't know, but how bad do you want to get out after shooting yourself in the foot for even considering PC and then getting denied.

Fred,
I haven't heard anything about submitting a waiver with the VSP package. Do you have anymore info about this? Standard form? etc.
Thanks.

Well, it all depends on what reasons you give your leadership for wanting to get out. I'm sure if you tell them you hate the AF for deploying you all the time and can't stay all the BS (which may be true), you may not get a very good reaction. However, if you come up with some constructive reasons as to why you want this, I can't see why they should hold it against you. My commander was very cool about it. He said that I had to do what was right for me and that my career progression, at least with him in command, would not be effected. I even had a sit down with the OG who questioned my reasons and he was cool about it too. Any leadership that purposely backstabs their people because they don't agree with why they want to separate may want to take a step back and realize that attitude may be the reason people want out to begin with. Yes, I was willing to "shoot myself in the foot".

This reshaping isn't always a good thing. I flew with a Captain the other day. He was just flying as a civilian with me he wanted to build some time. He's 2yrs away from retirement and it's very possible he is going to be a vicitm of this force reshaping bit. He has given the military 18yrs of his life and will get NO retirement. Yes he will get some money but the retirement would have greatly outweighed it.

I don't know the whole story with this Force Shaping, but I believe that a guy with 18 years has the option to take the early retirement or stay for the full 20. I have not heard of anyone being forced out with 2 years left.

Does anyone know if AFPC is notifying folks in the "Air Staff Revalidated" 11M slots yet? It's been two weeks since Air Staff announced the overages but still no word on new approvals.

Default Letter for Waiver

It was nothing special. Just a simple letter requesting a waiver to the ADSC to participate in the VSP program. Standard memo for record type. I read some others that people wrote. One had a bunch of info about how he served in deployments to xxx. Another one included info about needing to separate due to death in the family. I just made mine simple saying here is my ADSC date and I need it waived because the VSP program won't allow me to separate after 29 Sep 07.

Oh and I added the line about taking part in the VSP was in line with the "needs of the Air Force".
