Like everything it's all supply and demand. The supply was higher than demand after 911, but by 2004 the dynamic was changing. Supply was down and our contract battle was dragging on. After the 2005 contract people bought into the "best job in aviation" B.S. line and demand shot back up. When the realization set in that those hired after 2005 were getting screwed by the 5 base B scale basing system supply once again dried up. Enter IBB and all the associated drama.

I flew with a lot of great pilots at NJA. What year they were hired didn't seem to be a differentiating factor.

Yep the majority of pilots are amazing. Overall it was a great group.

Hiring in 2018

I'm still circling the (hiring) pool and heard that Phenom classes are scheduled for Jan and Feb (already full). Anyone know if other a/c might be possible for the newbies?

Yes, it is possible. It can even change while in indoc.

Pretty much only if you're bigger than the garden gnomes that fit in the Phenom....

Is IND an optional base for new-hires? What about SDF? Still a little confused on how that currently works.

Forgot the list is on the company Ipad. IND and SDF are on the list Basing at NJA is NOT seniority based. You inform the company which base you will be using from the list. You can change bases every 15 days.
