It is completely contractual for newhires to go into the Latitude. A point that the negotiating committee would not straight up admit during negotiations, even when pressed. We had a chance to put some real meaning into seniority for FOs that have been crapped on during their career at NJA, but good luck trying to get enough captains to care and let the details of the contract turn them into no voters.

No, no, no...an age limit would be...what's the word...arbitrary.

Of course, I'm not sure at what number a limit ceases to be arbitrary. 70? 75? 103?

Mandatory age limits were created out of the economic desires of airline executives a long time ago. But they are NECESSARY to police those among us without the intellectual honesty to admit that they NEED TO GO. The fact that two NJ pilots turn EIGHTY this year is proof positive.

Yeah, I don’t care what their buddy physician says. There is no mental test on the physical and FSI will pass anyone with a pulse. “CLEAR!”

There are some NJA pilots that consume more pills than food in order to stay alive, it is probably time they be put out to pasture.

Gone back a few months looking for info on hiring, not a whole lot of hiring in 2017, any idea on possible numbers for 2018? Saw there are classes in the next few months. Thanks to anyone for replying.

Supposedly, a new-hire class starts tomorrow morning. I can't WAIT to hear how many actually show up to the island of misfit toys.

Rumored total new hires for all of 2018 is somewhere between 100-150. Like most things, I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah that'll make up for the 200+ that we lost last year and the probably 300 this year. But don't worry now, the computer says we can handle it.

Airline execs would rather have the age 50, that way they could have many more at the low end of the wage scale, limit sick leave usage, and limit long term disability.
