And that's how it works at pretty much all 121 operators, unfortunately. You don't get a guaranteed base to upgrade unless you sit around years till you're senior enough, but rather you take the quickest offer to upgrade and where the company needs you.

Thats right, thats why the arguement is so strong for just starting out with a 121 regional that has a history of commutable scheduals and better pay, down south

Week off sounds nice, but coming back from that will suck with 6 and 1s. long days, split dutys, still ****ty overnights! most importantly still away from home. I don't see this getting better at all. Apps are out for me. Much greener elsewhere. ADIOS!

Ravn just gave their entire pilot group some huge raises! 75 hour gar. & 15k per year retention bonuses. Dash SIC start at 60k base + benefits! Bush got bumped up too. Caravan PIC base pay around 75k for two on two off!
Looks like the bar has been raised a long way!

I would move to wherever base (DEN or Portland or the new one?) to get couple thousand hours of PIC time and start networking. You get a nice check at a major never at a regional. They are all mediocre.

You can make more as an FO at Corvus than a captain at PenAir, you can make way more as a Caravan pilot at Grant. The point is if you want to fly for a regional why would you fly a 1980s turbo prop with rock bottom pay and a horrible schedule when you could fly for a regional that has competitive pay, new equipment, and decent schedules? If all your worried about is getting PIC time then there are so many other options if you want to live in the lower 48. If you don't care about pay or quality of life then PenAir would love to have you.

The goal of a regional is to get to a major where the real money and QOL is at. If you want to just fly in Alaska for a regional or 135 There are better options than Pen Air but at least you can upgrade in decent time and get PIC. Ravn upgrade is 6+ and flying a caravan won't help moving up with thousands of retirements coming soon at the majors.
