Really? Where else could you upgrade in a year (or less) in a 121 ME Turbine? The Chief Pilot just put out a bid for upgrades and you need only 121 mins (i.e. ATP + 1000 121SIC, and I imagine, a rep for not being an idiot). "Captain Vacancy: 5 PDX, 6 DEN; SIC Vacancy: 7 DEN, 4 BOS." If have SAAB type, or boatloads of time in similar, street CA is not out of the question
ok Case I ill bit, show me where a new fo has upgraded to ca in a year, or even at mins in den or pdx, you cant, that's a promise used to recruit, at the end of the day no one will upgrade until they are ready, it doesn't matter how long they are at pen. you are apparently an anchorage employee, that hasn't spent much time down here, if you were you would see the pain. your perpetuating promises pen uses to recruit that wont be fulfilled. pen has a history of not following through, and it wont change

Look, if I lived in ANC, I would not be happy right now, nor would I encourage ANC folk to sign-up w/ PenAir. But if you live in the lower 48, specifically around DEN/PDX/BOS, PenAir is not a bad place to be. Fair $, tons of flying, and looks to me like upgrade w/ 1000 of 121 and/or maybe 6 months in type. It's like a whole different airline down here vs up there. Yes, when you were brought on, it was AK only, and you were blocking 6 hrs a day and sleeping in your own bed every night - stomping glorious life! But now, the their aspirations have grown, and it's not just Orin's lil' back-country express. For you TDY draftees, sure, life sucks, burn it down, etc. But to come on the interwebz and say there is nothing for anybody and it's all bad is myopic and self-centered. If it sucks for you, bail. There are plenty of jobs, but I doubt you're gonna find anyplace like that place you had at the old PenAir. Times change, man.

Mine is a hypothetical example. FAR 121.436.a.3 sez you need a type and 1000SIC. I blocked 90 hours last month - extrapolate to 12 months, 1080 hrs. Therefore, one could be qualified to upgrade in 12 months, if one also earned the trust and confidence of their CA's and their recommendation.
I agree, no one will upgrade until ready - thank gawd. But, why wouldn't the company upgrade if you were eligible and qualified? Some are ready at mins, some take a bit longer to mature, as in any pursuit. I've seen CA's upgraded on seniority alone and it's not always the best result.
And BTW, the only time I've spent in ANC was during training.

All I wanna do is Fly.
Man, All I wanna get in the right seat of the freighter. Unfortunately I don't have the time. I thought I could skirt by with having almost 300 hours and already working at Penair. So I'm looking at ACE, Ryan and Hageland now.

Congratulations to Orin Seybert, a true "Legend in Alaska Aviation"! If Orin came back to take the reigns (or someone like him), I would ask for my job back.
Classic PenAir - Adventure, thrill, and maybe a chance to meet a new girl!
"[Orin] Seybert says his start in aviation grew from the desire to see more of the country around his home village of Pilot Point. He wanted to use the airplane for access to different trapping sites, to look around, and he really wanted to visit some of the other Alaska Peninsula villages to meet girls."

New PenAir: Farewell Unalakleet and Aniak (McGrath, you are next)...Hello Lower 48!
“We’re very excited to come down to that part of the country [Kearney, Nebraska] and provide our air service,” said Danny Seybert, CEO and owner of PenAir. “Our approach to serving rural communities will fit real well out there. We’re looking forward to being good partners with the community.”
