SIUav8er, where did you interview and with whom. i have an interview next month and am looking for some good insight if you can help. thanks!
Be IFR current (they really were interested in that while looking through my logbook), be IFR proficient for the sim check as well. I was unable to get any sim practice prior to my interview and I felt a little behind in the box, but as long as you can fly an approach to minimums, its no big deal. Everyone was really friendly and professional. They make you feel like youre already hired form the moment you walk in. From what I saw of the company, I am even more excited for the opportunity to fly for them. |
SIU-- How long after you submitted your app did you hear back from Ameriflight? I am trying to get an idea how far north of ATP mins they are really looking for.
|
about 6 month honestly... but I recently had a friend walk my resume in for me, and it was bout a month after that that they called me.

You only need 135 mins and they do hire at them. Be proactive.

But do they hire at 135 mins, with 50 multi (and less than 10 multi PIC)?

LOL, no hand feeding here... I've applied, but haven't bugged as much as I could because I had little hope. And I don't remember this thread mentioning multi time.... ;-)

The Best!
The absolute best part of being based anywhere near California is In n Out!

I didn't remember, but a search did help answer that question. Good luck! What base are you looking for? http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/pa...tml#post638750 http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/pa...tml#post563463 http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/pa...tml#post638807 |

Thanks! Honestly, it doesn't matter- I've never been out west, and have no family there, so I'd go wherever.

Something to keep in mind is each base has a different QOL, schedule, mx, upgrade time etc, so something out of the blue might not be for you.

lets make a list of the "best" bases for QOL
Do you like being home on saturday/Sundays? Do you like the idea of an outstation? Do you like hotels or crew apartments? Lots-o-variety CVG and OAK usually have a quicker turnover (IE less desirable, but again, YMMV) Seattle and SLC are a little more senior PDX, PHX and DAL fall somewhere inbetween. Some bases are all turbine, some mainly cheiftains, some lots-o-outstations. |

Lets start by defining what your definition of QOL is.

Whats the deal with OAK? Speaking with SH, she said if I wanted OAK she could promise I'd get it. So, whats the scoop?

With that said, OAK is mostly a chieftain base... so in order to upgrade you will have to be willing to move. That is why it is generally junior. |

I am sure these ?'s have been asked before, just looking for some info before applying. Years ago I ran cargo on the east coast. Backside of the clock and all, so i would guess the ops are very different.
What is a typical schedule? Would it be difficult to get PDX as a new hire? Once assigned a base can you be bumped out of it? Does AMF provide a hotel at the outstation? Year one takehome pay per month? Thanks in advance for any answers |

Portland is pretty full right now. After all the bids were awarded and everything was said and done, there are 3 pilots that do not have a hard run. They are floaters. There is also a new hire that is currently in the process of moving to Portland. That will make 4 extra pilots that will won't have runs this bid period.
|
interesting, thanks for all the great info guys!

Bumped out? only if the base looses a lot of flying. Hotel, no. Depends on base. SLC, for the most part yes. OAK, no. take home pay? APC has a great chart at the top right. airline profiles> cargo> ameriflight |

Out of Burbank it is mostly crew apartments. Gotta run. |

Year one takehome pay per month? Thanks in advance for any answers Bank Flight (junior) 7am show, get to hotel around 11am. stay at hotel during day 5pm pm show, get home around 8pm UPS Flight (senior) 5:30 am show, get to hotel around 10am. stay at hotel during day 3pm show, get home around 5:30 2. I heard PDX is where there putting people. don't know why because where overstaffed. There is a lot of movement east so by the time the new guys get here it may be less populated. 3. If they assign you a base it us yours unless you bid something else. If they make you move unwillingly they will pay for any moving expenses. 4.most, if not all flights with over a 2 hour layover have a hotel or apartment. 5.expect $1700 month w/o an FO; with an FO expect about $1900 month. |

Which airplanes are in and how senior is DFW? I know the bro is in DFW, but anything else? Fiance is about to take a job there, and being based there would be attractive, if I applied.
Thanks. |

how tough is it to get hired into PHX?
|
As of right now I would say pretty tough. The last person that went to PHX was back during the October bids, and that was for only one PA31 slot. As of right now, everyone in the upcoming February and March class should expect to be OAK or PDX based.
There is a lot of talk about a possible big bid coming out in the very, very near future for openings in multiple bases. Once that bid clears out some of the senior employees, or the ones willing to move everyone’s chances will be better about getting based where you want. |
cool..big sneeky things happening??
Now I just need HR to pull me from the stack...thats the hard part!!! |
