For the open domicile chieftain right now, it's Oakland, Burbank, Phoenix, and Portland.

tlove482 03-28-2009 06:15 AM

I interviewed in dallas with Ted Vanover. Asked a few multi questions and then some questions off the Jep low enroute.

She said a little of both...I don't know if a class a month till the end of the year is accurate, but possilby for the next few months. I have heard numerous places say they will hire that much and they never do. It would be nice if that was true though.

Is PHX really going to have Cheiftains? I heard there was one run opening there, does anybody know if there will be more?

beech1980 03-28-2009 10:27 AM

somewhere down the pipeline i heard that they turned a couple of runs into pa-31's. few people got downgraded, but who knows, maybe you can get down there sooner.

Thats what I am hoping for, I'll be out of training in a week or so!

What do you think about actually going there in person?

I'd suggest you don't go there in person. As an intern at pt 135 operation I worked very closely with the pilot recruitment folks and we had a few people visit in person. Our pilot recruiters told me they don't prefer visits in person and that most the people who do are crazy. I'm not saying you're one of the crazies, but people who visit in person do have a bit of a stigma attached to them.

Since it seems like Ameriflight's HR department is pretty small I'm sure they're pretty busy, so periodic attempts to contact via email or phone will show them you're interested in the job but also respect their time at work and should pay off the best in the end.

If they send me that-a-way that'd be great. I am the only one in my class who still has not been assigned a domicile...

I disagree. I think that showing up there is a great way to show a high level of interest. It worked for me at AMF. It's also an excellent strategy to land a corporate gig.

what is the sim ride like on the interview? i dont have a date yet, but it looks like i will be interviewing in dallas

Bowersbum 03-30-2009 07:29 PM

I interviewed in PDX about a month ago....But my sim ride was to depart North bend Oregon, using the North bend four Dep, then go Direct to the NDB that’s there, and then cleared for the ILS full procedure at North Bend, Published Missed, Do the hold. Then I was done. The ACP there talked about having me also do an Arching VOR App, but apparently forgot to have me do it or just liked what he saw. lol Good luck

No problem. I just wanted to share my experiences related to the issue.

There's definite benefits to a personal visit like tbmpilot said, but there's also some possible downsides related to it. If you go about it the right way though I'm sure it could turn out well. I just urge you to be respectful of what appears to be a very overloaded woman working in HR. There's a definite fine line between showing genuine interest in working for the company and coming across as pushy.

Just to let you know, I've never worked for Ameriflight so I'm not commenting on how they feel about the issue.

Good luck with the job hunt!

What kind of equipment do they fly, is there really anymore of an upgrade after the Metro? I have a good chance getting into the metro when I get back to the states cause I'm already typed but I really want to get into something where there's a chance to be upgraded into something else after a while.

Well, we have 1900's and Brasilias, would those be "bigger" airplanes for you? Already being typed does help, but we have had candidates already typed and wash out of training. If you want to try go directly into the Metro then plan on getting based in CVG or SDF.

SVA402 04-02-2009 11:50 AM

Anyone else get a call about the cancellation of the monday april 6th class?

What is the deal with CVG vs. SDF? I'm from SDF originally, so would love to get back. CVG...not so much. I'd heard at one point that they were planning to move the flying from CVG to SDF, but it sounds like now it's both? Also: Is hiring still on for the metro? I'm not typed, but have about 1500 pic in the mu-2 and some people who will walk the resume in. Also don't have an ATP, but will get one for the right position.

Thanks.

Thanks.

It's split between flying for DHL and UPS. Don't waste on your money on an ATP before AMF. Get the written done and you can get your ATP in conjunction with your type ride.

Boris Badenov 04-08-2009 05:26 AM

Appreciate the response. Written is in-progress, resume will be out by the end of next week. Thanks again.

It's a little pricey, but I went to ATP flight schools and did the one day prep and test, and it was worth the money to get it done with.

monkeypaws 04-08-2009 12:40 PM

Caribbean?

Any hiring for the Caribbean bases?

Heh. Already have the Shepard Air software, which is fine, I'm just lazy. This should prove the necessary motivator to actually get it done. Thanks again.

Took my checkride today for Ameriflight in the Mighty Chief, finally part of the club!

kodiakallstar 04-08-2009 08:42 PM

shepard air makes a good product. I was in the same boat. Kept having to renew the software until finally I just scheduled a date which forced me to buckle down and just get it over with.

I agree with the shepard air product. I used it last year when I had only 4 days to get the written done before my classdate. After craming for two days using the software I was able to get a 99%. The cost of the software is $75ish and writtens are around $80-90. You're looking at $160ish vs $250 charged by ATP. Not only that you can study at home and take the exam at any Lasergrade, CATS, etc testing site.

Congrats, I had my ride the other day too. Have fun out in PDX, if you ever make it out to PHX give me a call.
