The Westwind is roomy, i am not sure about the range, specially on the I, as far as speed I guess is not bad if you fly Citations!
Just kidding, we have the Lear, and for our line of work is great. Fast, great range and almost enough room for what you need to carry. I did Cyeg to FLL (2200NM) in 5.2 and still landed with one hour of fuel, don`t think many other planes can do that!
The worse i did was a 375lbs guy, it took 4 firefighters to get the guy in, and after that i just said 300LBS is the max!.

Yes the speed is great if you fly slowtations! The Westwind II especially with tip-tanks would give you a good range for sure. The advantage of a Citation I or II is that it operates 100 KTAS faster than a King Air, but at a minimal cost increase. It was the way Cessna designed it to be so that they could fill that niche in the 60's and 70's for owner pilots who wanted a little more speed, a stable airplane, and similar costs. That CYEG to KFLL leg is impressive. Is Ft. Lauderdale your company's only base of operations?

skualo3,
I was just down in Ft Lauderdale (FXE and FLL) handing out resumes to anyone I could get a hold of. May have dropped one at your place. Hope so, sounds exactly like what I'm lookin for! I only found two EMS outfits at FXE. Know of any others that might take a guy with 2000TT, 1100ME? I used to be a paramedic before I joined the Navy and saw the world. Would like to get into that side of aviation if I can.
Would appreciate any vectors!
Thanks,
HP

sk3,
Thanks for the leads! I've got resumes in to 2 of those. I'll hit the others today. Just havent heard from any of the 6-8 places I've put into down there. Not sure if it's a over/under qualed situation, no openings situation, or just the "some guy off the street" situation!
Thanks again!

Default Minor Tangent

What do you guys think?
I'm sittin on 2044TT, 1158ME (B200), 680PIC, a B200 type, ATP and all the other minor stuff. All my ME time is overseas/intl stuff, pretty decent experience I'd think. I've got between 30-40 resumes/applications in with no decent bites yet (a buddy sent my info into Colgan and Mesa, they called for interviews but I don't want to go down that road if I dont have to, Got an interview with a 91/135 op out of Tampa but they wanted to pay 20-22k for FO on a CE650... besides not payin bills, I thought it a little insulting to pilots everywhere besides being waaay under average, I passed).

Now.....would it be at all benificial to go out and pick up a type in, say, the ubiquitous little Lears or the Citations even though I would have 0 time in them.....or, bite the bullet and take anything flyin any kind of twin that comes around till I hit that 2500hr mark that most places are lookin for?

Any ideas? Any other tack I should consider!
Thanks,
HP

HuronPlt,
I hate to break it to you but what you were offered is typical for an entry-level F/o job without previous ex on type.
I would consider more beneficial take that position, build some time on type, when you feel comfortable get rated (use an FAA inspector and it will be free, just ask the company to give you a good rate on the plane), and that will give you time on type, a Type rating, a current 8410, contacts and currency.
I doubt you would be anymore marketable with a type on your license, unless a potential employer needs you to be rated for insurance purposes.
The second year pay goes in the 30k regions, and by then you should be ready to upgrade/move to something bigger.
If you want to go to 121, you might be better off biting the bullet and go into a regional, if you want to stay 91/135 or frac, take that Cessna Job.
You mention a type in the B200, I thought only the 350 required a type, did you mean sim training or was that on a other then FAA license?
International experience is always a plus, as long as it fits with the rest of the resume, Once we got a resume of a guy with 2800TT and 1600 IMC…it shows that you are either not paying attention to your resume or “interpreting” the Far`s to your advantage!
A lot of times management likes to see people applying periodically, it shows that they want to work for that particular company, rather then just looking for any job.
If a pilot walks away, whoever has left their resume in last might get the call!

Good luck!

PS We don`t need to pay anymore then you were offered because our insurance covers anybody with a commercial ticket and sim, and with a relatively experience pilot we might spend more time retrain them from bad habits then we would with a 500hrs pilot.

Sk3,
Thanks for all the info! I see the wisdom of your words and I'm beginning to come around! I knew the first few years would be rough but, I was hoping for a little better than 20k in the 135 arena. I'd prefer to stay away from 121 if I can. Just think I'd enjoy 135 work better.
And, yes, you dont need a B200 type to work on one normally but, we flew it at 13,500lbs and the FAA was good enough to throw it on my card.
Thanks again, got to get back to job fishin!

There are opportunities to make a better wage right from the start if you can get on with an EMS operator that operates single pilot. It probably would not be on a jet aircraft but many operators (especially in the West/ Southwest) operate turbo props such as King Airs or Cheyannes single pilot. Starting salary is between 40K and 55K. Minimums are of course a bit higher, at my company they are 3000 PIC and 1500 Turbine.

I have been flying EMS for 6 years, and I really enjoy it. A lot of posts seem to have a lot of neg. about EMS, and I find some if the info hard to believe. I am scheduled 15 days a month, (rotate between days and nights) and have a lot of time off. I run call out of the house, and am able to spend a great amount of time with the fam. We aperate 3 King Air B200's and a Citation V, with another Citation Ultra in prebuy. The pay is not the highest, but with the time off, most of us have other businesses on the side.
Our AC are in GREAT condition, fresh paint/interior, mechanically sound.
I average about 350 -400 hours a year. (not a time builder)
Most EMS operators run 2 pilots because of insurance restrictions. (espically in turbine AC) There might be a few still out there running single pilot, but there time is limited. All in all, I think it is a great job, and could see myself working here for the long haul.
