Most quality MEDEVAC companies will be either 7/7 or 4/4. The going rate this year is around 60-63k starting salary for 182.5 hrs of work. Keep in mind that extra shifts will come up that up will need to work and that will pay extra. 7bar will pay a set fee for a day rate and Air Methods will pay time and a half (excluding holidays). The companies that work a schedule more then 182.5 hrs of work a year should be paying for it, so do the math.

If anyone posting in this thread is interested in a Medevac job in Amarillo, TX or Guymon, OK, PM me. 7/7 schedule w/ 12hr shift. $55k + $4.5k retention bonus for every 6 months you stay with us (so, $64k total comp first year plus bennies). $300 + $50 into your 'bonus fund' for each extra day. King Airs. As other people have mentioned, this is not a time building job- expect 200hrs a year. That said, average leg is about 30mins, so you log a lot of approaches and landings for the amount of time.

Holiday overtime is paid at 2.5X base rate at Air Methods.

Looking at job postings, it looks like a lot of EMS operators (if not all), want you to have an ATP. Some of the advice I've read said flying night freight for a few years would prepare you for EMS but getting an ATP flying freight is going to be an issue. I have seen some that specifically said ATP in category only, so I'm not sure if the ASEL ATP is exempt from the whole 1500 hours deal. I even read one operator's website that went on to brag that ATP is "the highest rating possible from the FAA." I got a chuckle out of that for some reason, I think it's supposed to make the nurses feel good.
It looked like a number of operators even want you to have a Bachelors degree as a minimum requirement. It makes me wonder if I'm reading requirements that are behind the times or if they won't ever change them due to CAMTS or whatever it is.
I don't know about everyone else but the whole Regional Airline scene sounds like too much drama right now while EMS sounds alright if you can be happy in a Kingair and 40-50K a year... unless we have to pay 7k for an ATP course and 30k for a Bachelors, at which point you may just as well slog it out with Regionals.
