I fly pax and therefore my life is more valuable to the FAA. Hopefully you can pick out the sarcasm in that statement. And I agree the AP is nice when you need it, but most times I can and do hand fly far smoother than an autopilot from the vacuum tube era.

Eh, I think it's the fact that you fly pax and those are more important to the FAA than my collection of Amazon, Zappos, and 1-800 Flowers boxes. The pilots, eh, who cares?

And agree on being able to fly smoother than some of the A/Ps I've had a chance to use. Some of them try and rock me to sleep.

I love that you guys say "more people need that type of experience". Brilliant!! You know WHY autopilots, flight directors, co-pilots etc were created? Pilots were DYING and airplanes were being destroyed. Is it valuable to know how to fly IMC with no autopilot? Yes! Is it worth the risk to purposefully work at a place like this? IMO, no. I currently fly single pilot IMC, and I have a/p, gps and glass... and there are still moments of me being scared poopless (with close to 5000 hours).

I understand your point, it is a valuable skill. But I would not willingly fly an inherently more dangerous mission just to gain that experience when I don't have to... maybe it's my old age and wisdom

These are all valid points. Still, I wish more new jet pilots had more "come to god" moments prior to strapping on their shiny RJ's and further down the road Boeings and Airbus'

Hello Key Lime guys, I'm looking for some info on jumpseating with you in the near future, specifically DEN-GUC. Anything would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am an ex-Limer and can say that I don't ever regret going there to get the experience I received. I like a challenge and always wondered if I could handle the operation. 6 months in the Navajo and 4 years in the Metro taught me a lot. As far as the company goes, do they expect you to get the job done? Absolutely. Do they expect you to knowingly break the regs to do it? Absolutely NOT! You must be confident in your knowledge and decision making because in that type of operation you are on your own, but if you can back up your decisions with legalities, they'll stand behind you.

They are known to enforce their training contracts though, so I would advise an abundance of caution.

You can call the main office line on their website and they can connect you to dispatch. There's a 5:45AM departure DEN-GUC Tues-Fri, and roughly 7PM back to DEN Mon-Fri I believe. I haven't been there since May but those times should still be roughly accurate.

Regarding the company the last time I spoke to any of my former coworkers there (and this was about a month ago) they had a severe cash crunch. They laid off all the office personnel that weren't absolutely required and handed the pilot group a pretty serious pay cut. According to my friend the Metro driver aren't making much more than the piston guys are, "a couple hundred bucks more a paycheck" were his exact works. Based on what I was making there as a Navajo driver I'd guess that means they're taking home about $2,200 a month.

I'm a current metro pilot at Key lime and just wanted wanted to clarify... 2200 a month is a little bit of a exaggeration and also leaves out the fact that most pilots got a significant pay raise when Key Lime tried to simplify the payroll in early June. Take home pay now is a little over the 3,000 dollar mark for a first year metro guy and that's after tax and 5% to the 401k match program.
