Anyone know of caravan SIC gigs or the like? I fly jumpers and I can spend another year for 500/week flying the 182 and logging another 600/hrs but it is all day vfr local thats the problem, and I am not getting that turbine time like I should be, i might luck out but I could see another year going by with only a handful of me/turbine time. I have helped a few people on here, please feel free to help me.
Rickt,

You are extremely close to Part 135 minimums. Figure out how to get another 150 hours total time really quickly. In the mean time, send in an application with Ameriflight in California, Cape Air, AirNet and Flight Express. I think you are probably a good candidate for Flight Express, as soon as you get another 130 hours or so. They start people out in the Cessna 210 flying single pilot IFR. Move to the Baron within about a year or so, from what I have heard. Sometimes faster. 2 years and you could move on.

Good luck! I had a lot of fun flying Part 135 single pilot!

If you're looking in that general vicinity by all means check out Caldwell, Teterboro, and White Plains since there is a huge amount of Biz going in and out of each. Stuff a bunch of resumes and cards in a small brief and go introduce yourself to some pilots.
Following a couple of interview gouges, Pinnacle just hired with 1100Hrs.

I only got 55 ME, thats why I am hosed with Pinnacle. What kind of success have people had going to places like TEB and just handing out resumes with my times?

Hey Mate,

Ya i know we are in similar boats.....I have put my app into just about every single website I see/can find. I even am banging on the door of GL and Cape, but noone is biting. I honestly dont even get answers for caravan gigs for jumpers that ask for what I have for times =(. You would think 2 years of running a dropzone that does over $1mill a year would at least get me more turbine time, or a better job.

Also consider intern jobs, Hawker Beechcraft just hired a bunch and there may be other opportunities.

I am so screwed right now when it comes to 135PIC, because I started flying jumpers @ 270 hours and its all the time I have gotten since. I do not have anywhere close what is needed for XC, I have a much better shot getting my ME time up and going regional.

If you can manage it financially, I would suggest checking into the right seater program at CAE SimuFlite in Morristown or Dallas. From what I understand, after you do about 80 events or so with clients (no pay but extremely good contacts), you can get a type rating in just about anything they train there. Do something else on the side temporarily.

Sure, it's often tough to get a job with only a type and no experience... but I have personally seen guys picked up by corporates or 135 by doing it. Just making a real good impression with a chief pilot in the sim as a qualified F/O often does away with that experience necessity.

Unfortunately like I mentioned... it does not pay anything but 80 sims goes pretty quick. Just something else for you to think about if it works for your situation.... it has possibilities for your long-term prospects. I think FlightSafety still has some kind of similar program but I don't know the details of it. You can probably find all the contact info online.

Can you tell me more about the simuflight in morristown??? I am about 40 min from there, and am basically unemployed for the winter for the next 4 months.

Any idea how I apply for this or who to contact, I am looking all over their website and do not see any info on the program. Also do you have any idea how hard it is to get in? Any info from someone who has done this would be awesome, I def wana do this over the winter.

Rickt, you might want to put on a tie and go over to Morristown and talk to the people there. If you could get on as a sim right seater it would vastly improve your ability to get a job with a regional and actually pass the training. Unfortunately, dumping jumpers doesn't help at all with your instrument flying abilities, or the flying skills needed to pass Part 121 training. If I were in your shoes right now, I would pursue the Morristown thing, continue to look for any opportunity to fly anywhere you can, and get your CFII, even if you don't want to instruct. It will make you get instrument current and it will make you study the regulations again. Make sure every flight is a cross country. You can do as much BAI, holds, nav tracking and approaches flying 50 miles, doing a touch and go, and flying back as you can staying local.

By the way, you have the times for Great Lakes, but they have a very high washout rate, and a Part 121 failure could make the rest of your career very difficult! You have got to get instrument current and proficient no matter who calls, but if they do, it will be even harder for you!

Good luck!
