Default hiring and class date

Did anybody get hired into the right seat lately, and what class date were they offered? Rumour has it that the wait for the class date is beyond 6 months now. True?

I am part 135 with 500+hour of turboprop PIC looking to move on. It seems that this is a bad time, long wait at most of the popular regionals. TIA for your input

We had a total of 9 new hires in January indoc. We are losing about 7 to 9 a month of "off probationary" pilots a month, plus a few in training every month.

Current 770 pilots on property, but really only 680 pilots of which about 40 on that list are instructors and management. We have a large amount of pilots in training at a given time. Therefore we are between 450 to 500 liine qualified pilots at a given time.

I don't know what the delay is now, but hiring has slowed dramatically. It was 3-4 months when they were hiring as fast as they could, so 6 months is believable.

But please, for your own benefit, consider better options. Do a lot of research before you decide to commit to Piedmont. There's almost no reason to come here. It's a below-average airline in so many ways.
  • The pay is below average. There are first officers at other airlines making more than our captains. Not only are our pay rates low, we have very little soft-pay. If you don't pick up extra flights, expect only 75 hours of pay/month.
  • The flying blows. A lot, if not most, of our flights are less than an hour (wheels up to down). You'll regularly fly to airports with no control tower, or outside of the towers operating hours. Don't be surprised if you have to pick up a clearance by phone.
  • The schedules are absolutely horrible. Expect scheduled deadheads several times a month. Expect long sits out of town. Our schedules are so bad we've simultaneously got the lowest days off in the industry (working 19 days/month) and pathetic block values (65-75 hours block).
  • We're flying old clapped-out airplanes discarded by sister regionals. We were supposed to get brand new 175s, but the FAA decided we couldn't be trusted with them.
  • Most of the management and administrative staff have no business operating a modern airline. They should be running a tire shop.
  • Our technology is dated. (Trading trips is this silly process of sending an email to scheduling, getting no response, and calling them later to see if they decided to grant your request.)
  • The only objective reasons to come here, quickest flow and rapid growth, no longer exist.
Do yourself a favor. You can go elsewhere and make more money, have more days off, fly nicer and more capable airplanes, build time faster, upgrade quicker, and work for a more modern airline.

Hypothetically, would choosing Piedmont over another regional be more attractive if you lived in base versus having to commute for the other regional? From what I've read, living in base is HUGE for QOL. Thanks.

Never commute to a regional if you can avoid it. Even more so if the junior base is where you can drive to it.

Piedmont is far from perfect but not commuting is very hard to beat.

Last week we had weather cancelations so they put in a hotel for s break longer than 5 hours. My girlfriend drove over and we got to spend some time together.
Then they cancelled the rest of the day so we went home. Then they cancelled the next day and I stayed home.

The commuters all got stuck in PHL for the duration and I got 1.5 more days off.

1.5 extra days off vs. losing an entire day of your two days off to WX.

Def a perk, but doesn’t happen often. It’s def nice when it hits the fan though.

The thing I forgot to add is that there are other airlines at both our bases. Choose wisely, average 11-12 days off a month...when you’re fairly senior. 75 hrs to work 11 days off.

We might only credit 75 hours per month, but at least you'll always get min days off!
