”hire nothing but the best available pilots”

only hiring those without an ATP reduces that pool. plenty of folks out there that don’t have an ATP who are better than those who do (not limited to flying). piedmont is cheap. just take one look at their HQ...no surprise here, they are living in the 90s.

It's no secret that Piedmont has always hired the best aviators to fly the American Eagle brand. This is even more evident during the pandemic, since so many qualified guys ended up looking for work.

We can expect hiring to pick up rapidly come summer time. Piedmont will continue to put high-caliber guys into new hire classes to fill this need.

It's no coincidence that AA mainline brags about Piedmont and what their pilots are capable of.

Sanicom, that one turd of a captain represents the extreme minority of ATP rated pilots. Let’s be honest, people with previous jet time are better at slinging jets around than people without it. Experience should be the driving factor during hiring in our field. Diversity Indexes/ Factors are an idiotic concept.

I think you overestimate the pool of atp rated pilots.. and the pool of ATP rated pilots willing to come here for the poor QOL, poor treatment by management and the unknown future of Piedmont flight ops.

So the majority of ATP rated pilots that come may be less than steller...

You're arguing something we aren’t talking about.... we’re talking about the company making pilots pay for ATPs, not hiring quotas as you say. All this does is put the cost of taking the ATP CTP course onto the pilot. It doesn’t give you a better quality candidate. Excluding non ATP holding pilots is excluding a group of talent just because they cost more- nothing else. Getting an ATP doesn’t make you a better pilot.

Know who has a lot of experience and no ATP? I can think of a big group....

Bingo. If you want the best, you’ve gotta pay for it. What makes Piedmont the best regional to attract the best talent? Not that there is such a thing, you don’t get hired at a regional or mainline for being a good pilot. The people hiring you have never flown with you, and keeping a clean record is easy.

Not going to happen, at least not in our lifetimes. Piedmont plays an integral role in AA's greater network.

Don't forget Piedmont offers the fastest flow to mainline. AA loves having the Piedmont flows to assist in filling new hire classes.

No they don't have the fastest flow . Other regionals are flowing triple the numbers that Piedmont is, without batting an eye. This line is no longer a sell to potential candidates. Not the fastest flow but what Piedmont is:
-smallest pilot group of all 3 WO
-worst QOL-worst schedules
-min days off means max as well-worst union (be prepared for changes sent from management THEN an email hours later from your union claiming they didn't know the changes were happening)
-union dues to an incompetent union with ZERO ability to negotiate or HOW to negotiate.
-flow to AA 8 yrs atleast.
