First 600 cal/day is way too low (edit: though if only 2 days/wk maybe ok?). I'll let the more educated here explain why...
I've dropped over 50 lbs this year. It's amazingly simple really: go to the gym pretty regularly for at least a one hour workout (cardio mostly) and be unfailingly accountable and limit calories via myfitnesspal app (set limit to lose one pound per week). BTW I eat whatever I want, just not nearly as much as I used to.
Now the next step would be to turn up the intensity - more lifting weights, even better food choices. I'll be quite the old stud if I can turn the last 10ish lbs of fat into about 20 lbs of muscle.
Started at a personal record of 248; now 6'2" and 196 - the only problem is having to spend money for new clothes

It look like that you're on the right track.....just my 2 cent general comments to anyone else
Forget ANY, Atkins, Paleo, etc. program diet regime as they're statistically shown to not have long term staying power. However, eating sensibly and BOTH strength and cardio ( for me, mostly running and yoga, (no weights)) on a consistent basis is infallible.
If you choose to include weight lifting, be mindful of the fact that many fool themselves. i.e. Having rock hard arms is nothing unless you have a core to support it. Not to say weightlifting is bad. But bad weightlifting is bad.

You have to adjust your total mental attitude towards food.
1. Food in restaurants and eateries is BAD. You have no idea whats in the food... even the 'healthy' food. This food is a market product designed to get repeat business.
2. Food is a social medium to gather around with friends and family.
3. Most food isn't real. It is loaded with chemicals, biotics, drugs, hormones..... processed food isn't real.
4. an author stated "If it was made in a plant don't eat it, if it was from a plant, eat it...
5. Fake food sells and markets time.
One of the first posters said Weight Watchers... that goes to show that propaganda and marketing is powerful....
So many people think they eat healthy and that is why our system is rigged....
Weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise. You've got to climb in your head. The airline/travel schedule is your enemy.
Significant reduction in meat.. meatless days, the more the better.
To help, check out industrialized meat production so you will be disgusted with eating animal flesh.
Fruits and veggies... pound 'em like crack *****....
Good luck... a complete flight control check is good....

All at once though it can become at bit overwhelming. I think a good start would be to cut out soda all together. Its loaded with high fructose corn syrup and the diet alternative contains aspartame which is basically a poison and has been linked to cancer.
Dump soda for water and you'll be doing yourself a big favor.

I'm a little late to this thread, but the 600 cal/day two day a week is what I've been doing for the past month on the 5/2 fast diet and it has been a godsend. The fat is disappearing around my neck and my gut and I've lost 8 pounds in about 6 weeks. I workout, eat healthy, etc. The fasting is the key though, as it gets your liver to function in a different mode as it has evolved to do, and which it never does as we are constantly eating in our society. I do this on trips as well. I actually feel more alert without eating and the video explains increased brain function as well. The first couple of times you do it takes some motivation as it is something new. After that it is easy. It is kind of like getting your second wind while running, you will need to get over the hump during the day then you'll be fine. Watch this video that was first on PBS for why this works.

I've maintained the weight by continuing to run which lets me eat how I want for the most part.
I have a good amount of down time being a corporate pilot, so it's easier for me to get the exercise in. If I go to an FBO that has a shower I'll bring clothes and run while the passengers are at their meetings.
