I hope you are not a member of our negotiating committee.

Defeatist and fatalist attitudes will screw us all. The market has changed. Pilots are in demand. Our pay rate seriously lags behind the market leader. For a new hire, the flow is much further off now (PSA hired 700 in the past year, but flows 120/year at best...). Regionals without an abundance of pilots will get left behind when the major airline players start hiring even more and paying more too.

I am not a part of the committee. It's economics 101 - supply and demand. Until the company sees drop in new pilots (which they currently don't), they simply don't have incentive to offer higher pay.
We already have abundance of pilots. Just ask reserve FOs who aren't flying that much.
And airlines don't think like that - they are very reactive. What they worry is ROI, and if they stockpile pilots who aren't flying it ultimately hurts their short term profit margin which is what they are most worried.

So, a friend of mine in the hiring process has mentioned that there are several open seats in the upcoming classes. I confirmed that a few weeks back with an email to the hiring manager.

Additionally, ENY classes are full until 2019. So, you know that on some conference call, there are discussions about why our new hire classes have even 1 open seat. I think these are all good things for the pilot group and raises.

ENY has sent postcards out advertising direct entry captain positions at about $120k/first year.

It's amusing to see the Wholley-owneds trying to poach pilots from one another.

Current 121 guy here with 1000+ 121 time looking to make a change. PSA is enticing but since I'd apply for CA upgrade asap I'm sure I'd be sitting reserve for a long while.... If PSA's reserve rules are great it would probably help me make the switch.
No one knows yet. We are hoping to hear something soon.

You might want to check out Piedmont. They are hiring off the street captains and giving a huge bonus.

In all honesty, if you get close enough to do Short Call from home, Reserve is cake.
