Doesn’t PSA have SAP? I thought that was one of the best things about working for PSA- the ability to drop your whole line and pick up / rebuild based on what days you want to have off, or fly extra. Did this go away?

Not yet, but PSA ALPA has stated the are making PBS a priority in negotiations. Time will tell how it affects the SAP, but historically the PSA ALPA has not been effective in securing gains without creating what appear to be completely unforeseen negative consequences.

The recent pay increase, for now, seems to be their first improvement secured without giving up a significant concession. Hopefully this is the start of a new trend under the “new” leadership.

You can’t really drop your whole schedule. You can change your whole schedule if you want. The only requirements are your flight/duty/rest rules and you have to always be at least 65 hours or more.

PBS is coming one way or the other. The only question is when. My guess is 12 months or less. Our union says SAP will not be going away, and I believe them. My partially educated guess is we will see restrictions on SAP though. Like the reserve grid and/or holidays will determine if we can drop specific days we want off.

Only if the pilots vote to get rid of it. LOA 17 states the MEC And company have to explore PBS and will run a parallel bid.

That would totally and absolutely eviscerate SAP unless there was exquisitely detailed language limiting SAP to very narrow uses (like 3 periods per year not more than 3 days)

Hahaha the pay rates had nothing to do with the Union or MEC. AA wanted to pay us more to stay competitive, so that's exactly what they did.

The only saving Grace on PBS is that for better or worse the LOA says the pilot group has to vote on it. Although if they offer to say double Flow I could see SAP going away.

Getting PBS does NOT mean SAP goes away. People forget that.

Getting PBS means the entire schedule system is up for renegotiation. It means nothing is guaranteed

I think you missed his point, he was saying that if a offer was on the table to the pilot group to get rid of SAP in return receive a higher flow ie double, he thinks the pilot group will give up SAP.

PBS doesn’t replace SAP but if one is senior enough and knows how to bid with PBS, one wouldn’t need SAP at all to be honest... SAP will only come into play and be a benefit for Junior guys (low seniority) or guys who recieved a undesired results (garbage in = garbage out).

I don’t think SAP is going to go away, but I do believe that there will be some strings attached to it unless the company offers the pilot group a deal they can’t refuse...

Exactly. November and December are very expensive for the company because of holiday pay. I’m sure the company will offer something in return to put restrictions on SAP.
