The pilot group’s response is rational and appropriate but so is the company’s. This is going to be a very high confrontation process because each side has so much at stake.
SAP's days are certainly numbered, but if we're giving up our number one ace in the hole quality of life item then we need to be giving it up for something that improves things for all our pilots.

Besides eliminating sap would theoretically make us more efficient from schedulings viewpoint which would in turn mean we require even fewer pilots in the long run.

That was sitting in the back of my mind. No SAP = fewer pilots required...what’s to keep them from pulling SAP and still furloughing a bunch of pilots they no longer need in order to save even more $? Shady.

Correct.

They want to play hard ball? They want to eliminate their only recruiting tool? Let the hogs get slaughtered, never fear a regional closing the doors. I look forward to seeing Keith Stamper standing beside me at the next job fair.

Maybe someone at AA finally figures out how inept our scheduling and coordinating team is.. Get Redi, Brookelen!

The MEC would need to get creative. Like, "sure, you can have PBS, but we need to set the rules, and you cannot ever furlough any pilot on property right now, period."

We actually have a decent PBS setup at 9E. It's no SAP, though.

Only 4-5 years ago it was fairly standard to take home about $20,000 your first year as an FO, it's important to remember our past so that we hopefully don't repeat it.

If we lose our pay rates it'll be another decade before we can get back to where we are now.

I think his point was more along the lines of we shouldn’t start heading back that direction...

PSA Mgmt also wanted us to give up time and a half for day off flying and minimum day protection. I think it sets a bad precedent to give away our ace in the hole and our biggest QOL item in the contract, but that’s just my opinion. This company never acts in good faith anyways, and SAP creates inefficiencies that increase staffing requirements, so like others in this thread have mentioned if we gave up SAP it would allow the company to furlough even more of us.

Jdub is right on the money. SAP is out one and only leverage we have. The only thing that breaks that is an airline shut down or the union giving that up.

Yea, they're not serious about saving money. By making it issue of principle on SAP they are telling labor it's just their ambition.

If Mgmt jobs were at stake they would have entertained anything and everything.

At the same time let's not pretend that upper management is at any risk in this mess. Worst case scenario they waltz off to being upper management at some other company lamenting how unreasonable us labor types are.
