Flip side of the coin is that AA barely made a profit in 2025. With the Iran conflict oil spikes it likely can’t afford to splurge on premium pay for all of its WOs and maintain profitability in 2026. Even AA’s regionals have 5k applicants and hiring to other majors is constrained and the market flooded with furloughed/laid off pilots. Getting rid of the extra pays won’t change staffing in the current hiring environment and will allow for a more profitable 2027. Losing a group of well paid regional pilots who resign or flow in protest won’t bother AA management in the slightest.

Okay I see your point. What little DECs are left at Envoy can and probably leave. But there’s not a lot of you left…..so again, it’s not really going to hurt the company. If anything, your inflated pay rate due to the 121 longevity credit is something the company would be happy to get off its wage bill.

Some would obviously leave if the pay was reduced, but that is only a threat to the company if they can’t be replaced. If there are FO’s who meet the minimum qualifications for upgrade and a line of CFI’s looking for that first 121 job then senior captains leaving isn’t a problem. On the other hand if there are not qualified FO’s who can upgrade it would be a different matter. They don’t care about losing players if they can’t be replaced with cheaper ones.

Who keeps making this up? Read the first page of LOA 24. Year 1 pay for FOs will be $70/hr, Year 1 pay for Captains will be $110/hr. Yes of course we don't want the premium rates to expire in January, but people need to stop lying and pushing these "pre-covid" rates.

2021 total major hiring was ~ 5400
2022 ~ 13,100
2023 ~ 12,200
2024 ~ 4800
2025 will end up ~ 4300 or so.
Meanwhile, retirements have just about peaked:

Now there is probably a little latent demand because of growth aircraft on order, but there are also a few thousand people waiting for class dates. But we’ve just come through the most rapid hiring in the majors in about a quarter century. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that’s the norm.
And regional hiring depends - to a very large extent - on that major hiring, since few of the major airlines don’t have maxed out scope clauses.
