Just accepted the Feb 7th recall class for PSA. I was 7th on the list, all those above me deferred... HR said there were 10 below me on the list.
This class will be about 4-5 people, and from what I understand, PSA is going to keep calling back 4-5 people every month till all are back to work, then start with possible new hire classes.
I attribute it to increased flying (the pilots on the line are busy, picking up more than the 75hr guarantee) and attrition with many pilots being affected by the age 65 rule.
The reason for only a few recall pilots at a time is the # of instructors available for training. PSA has inquired about pilots interested in teaching, so I think they are ramping up for future new hire classes, in which more instructors will be needed. My new hire class (Jan 09') had about 25 pilots in it.
Hope this helps some.

The slow pace of recalls has very little to do with instructors. They could have enough instructors tomorrow to recall classes of 20 plus if they needed. Now the attrition has been very little. As of now it sounds like PSA and USairways does intend to honor the 16 letters in which we had of pilots whom were offered jobs at USairways.... It would seem that would be the reason for the recalls more then anything. The Feb 7th class will be of either 6 or 7 First officers. As to if they go through the whole list or not is to be known shortly. Best of luck to you all..... I look forward to seeing you all that first or second week of training in Dayton....

But unless you hold a line, life is difficult. Very difficult. Don't even think about commuting on reserve you will be in airports 28 days a month. Seriously.
My advice is if there is a closer airline to work for. Work there. If you like your job currently and have time for friends and family then stay there. Only work at PSA if you need a job.
Upgrade will be in excess of 5 years no matter what next pilot shortage there will be.
Of course this is all my opinion and not the opinion of PSA or US Airways blah blah blah....

Please keep this in mind if you are thinking of coming to PSA. It's a good company to work for if you want flight time in a jet and your paycheck is always good. Might not be the right amount but I don't think that is done on purpose.

And application? I was not aware the application window was up? Also I do not know why the head of training would be needed? We have a few people in charge so that is a vague question for us to answer.....
