I would like to know how many*PSA*FO's are captain-qualified and currently waiting for CA upgrade? I'm trying to get an idea how long it would take to upgrade after I'm finished with IOE if I start ground school next month.

I'd guess about 40 FOs have 1000 hours with the company and are choosing to bypass. Each month, about 4 FOs will hit the 1000 hour mark. That number will probably increase to about 10 FOs per month in three months from now. The company is upgrading 30+ per month. About 10 captains are leaving per month minimum, that number will probably increase overtime.

Here's a good question: if an FO upgrades out of seniority order, what events can push him/her back to FO? Obviously, your standard displacement bid can do that. But, as more senior FO's log their 1,000th hour as SIC, can they immediately upgrade and displace the CA's junior to them?

Additionally, as more CA's are needed in future upgrade bids, can those FO's with their 1,000th hour logged upgrade and displace those below them?

I'm envisioning a scenario in which the company stops needing CA's, leaving CA's who are junior to FO's in place for years.

No. There has to first be an opening before an award can be granted. No opening, no award. No displacement.

That makes sense, however much it might suck to fly with a CA junior to you. Thank you.

I've flown with Captains who were junior to me. It didn't suck. Why would it?

Good point. All I meant is that in such a case, it seems like it might suck knowing that pilot is junior to you, and that you could hold that seat. I don't mean to imply anything about abilities.
