Piece of advice for the sim. If your instructor wants to sign you off after lesson 8, take the sign off. If you don't need the extra training then don't take it. I've seen crews ask for the extra 2 'just to freshen up' and the instructor not signing them off only to hit the training wall and bust the check ride. Study hard, chair fly, and ask questions. The ones not getting through are those not putting in the effort outside of the classroom/sim. The second half of the program is busy, expect it. Study on your own. Chapter 4 and 7 of the POH should be your best friend.

This is great advice!

I know that when I went through, indoc was really easy, and so were systems (at least for me). IPT's were a little challenging, but with 10 sessions and a great partner, he and I got through them pretty easily.

When sims hit, it was a completely different game all together. I felt that the instructors prepared me well for the check ride, but I know that my partner and I spent a lot of time outside of the normal lesson working together.

Put the posters up, get with your partner, and fly 100 practice approaches. Make sure that you can do all of the flows 100% and make sure that the memory items are down. Make sure that you can get the airplane from the gate to the runway in a quick and orderly fashion, including all of the FFOD checks.

Is it advisable to have my car in Dayton during training or get my without it. Can do either, just seeing what others have done or planning to do. Then wondering about time before going to CLT, time in between.

I took my car to Dayton and didn't regret it. I liked the flexibility it gave me when dealing with meals and getting supplies. You'll have the weekend off in-between ground school and your oral to drive back home. I got the early EOC so I was able to leave Dayton at lunch and was pulling into my driveway right before midnight. They'll fly you to your oral the same day, if possible. Then most classes are averaging about 5 days off after oral before the start of sims.

So DAY > 2ish OFF > Oral > 5ish OFF > Sim

I flew to my oral and I'm flying to sims as it's only 12 days. I'll rent a car while I'm in Charlotte if I get to restless.

I would have gone completely mental without my car in Dayton.

You will not regret having your own set of wheels in DAY, especially if the hotel is downtown. That's 15-30 minutes each day of waiting for the shuttle to come pick you up, plus you'll be able to run out and get whatever you want whenever you want and do some excursions on the weekends ( I recommend the AF museum...).

1000% this!!!! Dayton ain't the most glorious place in the world to begin with. Without some flexibility to get around and provide that for your newfound friends you will kick yourself every day in DAY.
