Except that the barriers are being kept artificially high due to regulation.
I was mostly referring to 135
Yeah, if you're greedy and don't mind others being hurt for your benefit. But if you're a decent human being then you want the market to be as close to equilibrium as possible.

As for your comment about minimums being artificially high, they wouldn't be artificial if it wasn't for brand new pilots willing to work for next to free. Having low time is only temporary. Once you have your hours, you will be thankful for it.

Those things are handled by freighters and pipelines. However, you need PEOPLE to produce them and without EAS passenger service, how you going to manage that trick?
I suppose you could make the same argument and justify slashing highway funds. Great idea...let's go back to the good old days when it took a month to drive cross country before Ike discovered the value of Interstate highways.

Your analogy with highways would make more sense if the government was subsidizing empty buses to places that most people don't want to go to. The government (us) are paying for the NAS system just as we have paid for the interstate highways. The infrastructure should be paid for with taxpayer money but not the users.

Anyone who relies on air service, either passenger or cargo, because their costs will likely increase at least a little.
And investors (which is anyone with a 401k or pension)
The market should be able to equalize without government intervention. 250 hours worked very well for decades (and most SICs weren't hired that low anyway)

Flew EAS into Vernal and Moab, UT from SLC. It was pretty and we flew some tourists into town. I don't know if they would have rented a car and driven if no air service. I do know when we cancelled for Mx or Wx we made up the missed flights on the weekend with no pax just droned back and forth. THAT was a total waste of gov't money.

If not, you might just be able to see the error in your thinking.
If so, then please NEVER volunteer for any union work at your air carrier because:

I know of two EAS routes that don't need EAS money anymore as ridership sells out 50 seat jets now that the turboprops are gone. It's not a solution for all routes but as cliche as it is, people don't like props.
