The irony is that if they did away with the 1500 hour rule, people wouldn't flock back into the profession. The Regionals would still need to pony up to attract people. The cost of training will keep the majority out. I'd say a generation of people have been put off by the publicity of low pay, high expense, and bad QOL.
As for 1500 hours, I dont discredit cfi doing pattern and maneuver instruction. As many have stated its about decision making. Refining ones judgment skills. Yes realworld imc is golden too. But the only way to guarantee (maybe, alot of jokers out there) that someone has the decision making skills is to make them have a bunch of time.
Oh and for my own opinion there are alot of FOs now that I think suck more than the 250 hr wonders. I don't personally believe that 1500 hrs will make you better. Just that it provides more oppertunity to grow. Arbitrary hour numbers dont solve stupid. But its a start. If I were king I would have a better breakdown on flying done, for how long, and examiner remarks. Just me though

Yes, I do realize that most Americans falsely believe social security is completely self-funded but the numbers don't add up with our unbalanced population. We have too many retiring baby boomers increasing the cost of social security without enough working Americans to fund the increase. Therefore, something has to change long term, preferably in the short term though to avoid a massive debt crisis. Our current president has already said he plans to kick the can down the road.

That's what you believe, right? Why does the CBO project a massive shortfall in social security funding in the coming future? That 12.4% does not go into your own invested account, it's paying for the current retirees collecting social security. Your funding the current retirees, hoping enough workers will fund your retirement in the future. We're reaching a point with our unbalanced population where we have too many retirees and not enough workers.

I understand the point you are attempting to make, but if you want to be taken seriously, use facts, not opinions.
The fact is, Alasaka is about 19.3% the size of the lower 48, not 33%. That's closer to 1/5, not 1/3. (An interesting factoid is that it is larger than all but 18 countries!)
And with all that land mass, it only has 0.2% of the US population.
All of that being said, people choose to live where they live. They could also choose to live closer to an airport. Or choose not to fly. Or choose to fly in a bush plane they they pay for themselves.

Facts like:
Alaska is 2,261 miles wide by 1,420 miles long ...
The lower 48 is 2,802 miles at its widest (FL to WA) by 1,650 miles north to south.
All of that being said, if you ever commute, I am sure you will never complain about it, since you can choose where you live.

"Convenient" facts? That's humorous. At least I used facts. I know how big Alaska is. Been there, done that, have at least 4 T-shirts. Driven from the top to the bottom. You'd need some serious Diff Eq to calculate those numbers you posted accurately. Meanwhile, let me make it simple for you, with a picture:
United States (Contiguous 48) vs. Alaska (USA): Comparea Area Comparison
No, I don't complain about where I live. If I don't like it, or it is inconvenient, I move. Have done so at least 10 times. Moved 6 months ago to DTW. Moving soon to ATL. Have commuted before, will commute again. Life is all about choices my friend.

So why should taxpayers pay for EAS anywhere in the country, including Alaska? I have yet to hear why I should subsidize some one elses choice of living conditions. Because you want to be a super mountain man living far away from society, doesn't mean I should have to pay for it.

You obviously know what I meant, since you described it. Barrow to Homer. As in "mainland" Alaska.

You drove from top to bottom??? You mean you drove from Barrow to Homer and took a ferry to Dutch Harbor or you drove from Barrow to Haines and you took a ferry to Ketchikan??
