Street Captains
#21
I guess at Trans States a few years ago there was a lot of resentment b/c there were street captains hired, which then a few months later kept some qualified FO's from upgrading b/c they didn't need any upgrades at the time. (correct me if I'm wrong TSA guys who were there at the time)

I personally know one guy who just left for training at Mesa. He was offered a CA position on the Dash 8 straight out of a year of freight. I am looking forward to hearing how this turns out for him and excited that these opportunities are now coming into existence.

This is how I have been thinking about it.

there were 14 upgrades in the Jan class for TSA. 13 finished (one got on with Allegiant.) the mins for upgrade have been dropped by 1000hrs to 3000TT and 2000 with the Company
and the nice thing about street captains is as soon as i upgrade, they get pushed down the seniority list and get the crap lines i would've had...

So what do you think they should have done. Cancel some flights to protect your upgrade. I tell you what for those of you that ran out of instructing early that was your choice. As you said before timing is everything and I guess yours was off or you would have been able to upgrade right? I usually try to stay away from posts like this but attacking someone that is MUCH more qualified when he comes into the regionals is not what we need to be doing to fix today's industry. I guess I would be an evil person in your eyes because I took a street CA position. Of course I probably had more hours when I took the left seat than most have after 2 years in the regionals. I found my first regional job with over 3000 TT and over 1500 multi, of which about 1200 was PIC turbine. So I would say my 3+ years as a flight instructor paid off. Of course like you told the other guy I guess we can assume you wouldn't have taken the CA job if it was offered because you would have felt it wasn't right?...I doubt it. When those low timers get their hours up then they can upgrade and I will bumped one spot lower. I am fine with this as I know that is how it works, but I will not be angry at the company nor do I think they should stop these ppl from upgrading because it inconvienences me.

As for GJ, I just can't see myself ever going there. PIC is nice and all that, but the stigma would really bother me. Eagle has its problems, but at least I can tell people where I work without shame.

As far as the mesa thing goes: I'm not sure if were hiring straight into the left seat of the dash anymore. Lots of recent hiring will result in upgrades for those already here. Not positive about that though.
Yes, the JFK thing is going away, but per the contract, they have to offer you a seat in the airplane that is replacing what you fly or you can take a different domecile.
As far as Mesa out west : GJT is senior, but DEN and PHX are very holdable. As long as your not one of the bottom 5-7 guys, you wont be flying reserve.
