Nope, not the first 35, not the 824, not the protected pilots. Nobody after 9-11 was forced to transfer. Pressured to go yes, but nobody was forced that I’m aware of. There was a large group pushing for “must flow” but I’ve never been a fan of mob rule. The key wording as I recall was “opportunity to flow” which was interpreted at the time to mean they did not have to avail themselves of the opportunity. It was a heated debate at the time, but as I recall, it ended up being voluntary only.

They may not be in your choice of domicile or the most attractive but there were jobs available continuously throughout 2007-2011. If you werent able to get hired as a cfi you were probably underqualified at that time.

Staying at a regional because you are afraid of another downturn is idiotic. A regional job is easily replaceable and is in itself no way secure. Work for an airline that writes thechecks.
Mesa stopped hiring in May 2008 and furloughed in June 2008. Colgan stopped hiring about that same time, announced furloughs, but didn't actually furlough anyone. Colgan was the first regional to start hiring again and I believe they were the only airline hiring at the time. I think that was sometime in 2010.

Yep. The “what about” was the tag line of the time.

What most in my peer group at Eagle didn’t like was the fact that those that declared Flow created a flow back spot—and then didn’t want to go? That hurt junior pilots.

Bottom line is a flow agreement is a carrot on a stick, but as time goes on that carrot gets eaten away.

Dwelling? Telling the history of preferential hiring at the majors is now "dwelling"? Once again, mind you your own damn business, not mine.

If there truly is a so called “hiring discrimination”... it should be noted that women and minorities endured that for much MUCH longer in this industry.

From what I have seen, I have noticed a few women that I know get picked up at legacy carriers w/ no TPIC time and a short stint at the regionals... but I also can say of the ones I have seen, they are quality people, great individuals and I cannot take away their accomplishments and blame it on their gender. Same goes for minority’s. Those accusations of ones success in moving on due to skin color and gender alone completely take away the whole body of work those individuals accomplished.

Indeed, and as long as the so-called “affirmative action” hiring exists for any group, it will cast doubt on the actual qualifications of every member of the group who does get a position. It’s one of the most pernicious problems with it and why HR should stop doing it. It reinforces the stereotype rather than fighting it.

No waivers, no favors...

I never get why this argument never dies; yes, there was huge injustices minorities faced in the history of this country, many biases still go on today (I mean look at politics to this day); but, for the average white dude like myself it sucks that we may never get to United, Delta or American but if we were Asian or African American and our name was Jennifer or Megan we would be guaranteed to make it to a legacy carrier. No matter how hard we work, no amount of volunteering or leadership positions will do us as much good as being female or having anything other than European ancestry. That's not fair either. Why can't people see both sides?

That coupled with seniority, living on base, and having a real cush job is why there is regional lifers. But also why there are ACMI lifers, corporate lifers, etc. In the game of aviation, some pick where they settled, and others fell from a storm and landed where they are.

Control the things you can control. Try not to be an “average white dude”. Good luck to you.

Your right man, I started helping out at my local food bank a week ago.I hope what I said isn't taken that way. I know some people have advantages, I'm going to work as hard as I can to differentiate myself.

I get the history, still sucks that I have less of a chance of reaching my dream just because I'm of European ancestry and a male.
