Do you track down the baggage handler who handled your checked bag and tip him? Because checked bags are quite heavy you know.
Do you tip the FA when they bring you a cup of coffee, a bottle of water or your crew meal?
Do you tip the maid who clean your hotel room and changed your sheets? I bet you walk by the maid's cart and wouldnt even bother looking at the maid but just took shampoos and towels off the cart.
how about the front desk clerk who checks you in and out, makes you your room keys and answers your questions. Do you tip the clerks?
what about the building engineer who fixed your jammed toilet or changed the light bulbs of your room?
so why do van drivers get special treatment?

You pick a bunch of jobs which are traditionally non-tipping jobs to then compare to what has been a traditional tipping job to make your point?
Ask the same question about comparable jobs if you want a true comparison.
Do you tip a waitress?
Do you tip a bartender?
Do you tip a barber?
Do you tip a bellman?
Do you tip a Lyft/Uber/taxi driver?
A point has been made on this thread that the van driver is not in a position to be JUST the van driver and might be making a regular wage and not dependent on tips. True I guess. I have tipped the manager when that person has stepped up because I’m tipping the position, same as I would if the manager helped out at the hotel bar too.
Serious question for those of you whom said that you only get some amount per hour. That is for a 24 hr period correct.
In your contract Is it actually called Per Diem or is it still called M&IE? Someone brought up the language in the CBA. Does that language include incidental expenses?

I've maybe had a van driver actually be a manager of the hotel maybe 5% of the time, and it was either very late or very early and they had to leave the front desk unattended to do so. I find it hilarious a poster here actually uses that as an excuse not to tip anybody. "well actually the van driver could be the manager and is making more than my FO, dar dar dar. I mean, do you tip your dentist dar dar dar dar darrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

1. They help me with my luggage
2. They don't make a lot of money
To point #1, it is part of their job. And if I take care of my own luggage, then it justifies not tipping.
To point #2, as already mentioned, their financial problem isn't my problem. Many people don't make any money like the maid or the clerk, we still dont tip them. So why do van drivers get special treatment?

there are really 2 points I have seen about tipping the driver
1. They help me with my luggage
2. They don't make a lot of money

3. The fact that some of these fanatics have such a self righteous belief that they can determine “everything” they need to know about someone just because they don’t tip one night. Last I checked we have evolved as a society to not judge someone based off a single character trait.
Again, I tip most of the time, when I don’t it’s a valid reason to me. What others think of me is their cross to carry. My sole argument to this as of late is that I find it repugnant that people claim they know someone based off of ones tip or no tip.
I wonder where those most vitriolic about not tipping work. I just hope I can sleep tonight knowing Lonestar won’t have dinner with me. Whatever shall I do.

America is the most likely place for a homeless person to become a millionaire with enough hard work and determination. For the most part there is no "stuck" its true laziness. Until the middle ages there were no fat people because you literally had no choice. Either you do the work or you don't. And its still my money to do as i please with no matter what you say.
