Shawn Blair is starting my IOE. I'm just filling in for an IOE trip that someone was sick and canceled. They said it might be a little while to finish me they arent sure. I'm sure the're trying to work around everyones seniority. I was an October hire.

Just relax and have a good time. You aren't going to remember everything and you will make mistakes. Keep your eyes and ears open, and as was previously stated, ask questions. Good luck and welcome to the line!

I have a quick question for you guys. I'm about to start ground school on the 10th. I know we get min res. for training. I'm trying to plan a bit financially for the year and was wondering how much approx. a first year FO will bring home every month flying the line. Is there an opportunity for extra flying? If I remember right, we get block or better right? Any insight would help tons. Thanks!

It all depends on how soon you can get off res. and that depends on what base you want. But for training you'll get your 75 hours and that's not alot, and I don't think you will qualify for food stamps. Yes we do get block or better and for open time you can pick up time for 1.5 pay, all that being said I wouldn't buy anything big.

I thought I read in our contract that we get per diem for being away from our base for training. I did my FTDs in Denver, and havn't received any per diem. I could be wrong though. Am I missing something?

New hires get no per diem until the start of OE. I was given the word that as a new hire you aren't "officially" assigned a base until the start of OE, therefore they do not have to pay per diem. Personally, I think a month in Denver, Montreal, or St. Louis without per diem is a little harsh.

I think the out of base training without perdiem was pretty harsh. Especially without a mini kitchen to help offset costs... And 1.55 an hour would have gone a long way towards the SWA deal downstairs at the Doubletree

Moreover, does anyone know when we're going to start to see some significant movement again. With TOWOP back on the agenda, it's something to think about. And being Saab in DTW, I'm assuming that when the rest of the new guys finish they're green lines and summer approaches we'll see some more solid lines?
