Then again, I come from previous jobs in manual labor and customer service, so to me flying is a huge improvement. I also don't have to commute so reserve is a piece of cake for me.

But there are pilots at Mesaba who don't like the job. I have found that they are often:

1) Commuters

and/or

2) People who this is their first job (other than instructing)
I can understand why commuters would have issues, but why do you think 'Mesaba pilots who this is their first job?'

Probably because the issues they have are gripes about working for an airline in general, not necessarily Mesaba.

I call it the "realizing you're just a number and and oh wow! They really can make me do that!" Syndrome.

Thanks, V1, I appreciate it. Congrats to you as well. It took a little patience waiting for the call and a little poise to get through the interview and screening...but I'm certain it will be worth it. It's funny though; I'm so elated to have the class date, but I have a month and a half until it starts. Guess it gives me time to fly 91 and enjoy the holidays.

Also, a small note for anyone wondering: I was told by HR during interviews that the flow-through from Mesaba to Northwest is being honored by Delta. This was something that concerned me with the merger, but things are looking up.

Cheers.

How long is the contract?

Any thoughts of Delta playing the regionals against each other to get better deals?

Any ideas of how Delta's proposed reduced flying next year will affect Mesaba and their thoughts of new planes and upgrade times?

I'm trying to decide about leaving my (weaker) present company for Mesaba. Not sure about the future and upgrade times for each.

That's the million dollar question... I honestly think that Mesaba is in a strong position. XJ is already getting the new CR9's, so as long as DL doesn't change their mind on that, things should be fine.

I really think that DL is going to continue to hammer away at Comair and when Mesa is brought to court and gives DL the contract termination that they want, that will be the domestic reduction they are looking for. Then again, things could change on a dime as they always to in this industry.

Its just a trend that's been noticed, can't say for sure why. I think that when you have worked other jobs it gives you a frame of reference that makes you appreciate flying a lot more.

I'm sorry Diver, but I laughed at your post. I don't mean to sound mean and I sincerely wish you welcome at XJ. I was considering Comair a year and a half ago about the time that you headed there while I got lucky by going to XJ instead. Again, welcome to XJ.

That said, "we" just sounds funny to me since your class date isn't until Jan 5th (correct?).
