Mesaba new hires

The concensus with several LCA at XJ is that XJ is about 100 pilots overstaffed and with the PBS will be overstaffed by about 150. The fact that XJ has not furloughed may indicate that XJ is expecting to receive additional aircraft later on but this is a speculation at best.
I just wanted to pipe up and present a second take on what PBS does for the company. Everyone looks at it as making us another 50 pilots overstaffed. This is true if we maintain the present level of flying. However, PBS doesn't necessarily have to make us overstaffed. It makes us more productive. so a optimistic way of looking at its implementation would be that it would allow us to fly more flights the present staffing levels.
I just thought my fellow bottom 150 would enjoy that outlook on the situation.

Anybody else notice their seniority number change on the bid? I was in the 1160's now I'm in the 1120's a change of about 40. I didn't think my number would change with others taking TOWOP, but I don't think that many people could have possibly left. Any thoughts?

First of all I am not an advocate of PBS bidding.

For the bottom 150, if it will make you feel better, many sources have told me that if XJ needed to furlough tye would have already. I do not agree that XJ management is as inept as some people make them out to be. Yeah they have made some stupid mistakes in the past but now they are under the microscope DAL management. Either they hack it or they will be history. All indications are there that there will be no furloughs at XJ. If anything I think there are more flying on the horizon.

I think it's more a matter of finally updating things in the planning department. I jumped in crew track from 542 to 505 overnight. We didn't have that many quit in a day I'm sure.

Regarding uniforms, I personally hope no new uniforms are issued as I don't want to spend any more money on new uniforms. The hat issue was supposedly specifically addressed and that hat will not be enforced. Jacket is not required even for Delta from April on till late Fall so I do not foresee XJ requiring jackets for the Summer.
Furlough is always a possibility. Even if XJ furloughs, which i think is unlikely, it will not be more than 150 at best and I am not sure it save any money for XJ to furlough less than 300 pilots for a year.

I think contractually if new uniforms are mandated then everyone already here would be given anything new at no cost to us per contract. As for the jacket I was referring to requiring it to be buttoned when worn at Delta.

There are so many rumors but I know XJ and Skywest are fat and keeping pilots on staff with the hope of more flying to come in the fall. The more I ask around the more I think the reason we haven't furloughed is because they just don't know what the fall block hours will be. I think they are waiting to see how big the block hour cut will be then they can come up with the right number to furlough.

Q: Why has Mesaba not furloughed even though it is common knowledge that we are approximately 110 overstaffed?
A: The Displacement costs would be tremendous. See recent MSA ALPA Pay Day Hotline.

That's a very good point. For those you at the bottom 150 at XJ should not worry that they will be furloughed. I really see very little chance of that happening at XJ level. If any furlough occurs, it will be at the mainline DAL after this summer. I've heard this over and over from Mainline NWA CAs that their coversations with the NWA management is that if the load factor does not come up to expectations this summer, DAL will have to furlough this Fall. The No furlough clause due to merger will not prevent DAL from furloughing due to economic impact.

Starting in June XJ picks up 4 new cities....GFK, JFK (both red and blue tail service), FSD, and YYG (Charlottetown). All on the 900.
Looks like we might be starting the move from SLC to JFK that we have been hearing about the past few months.

Caution: There may be too much optimism and speculation on this forum today. Someone may get bent out of shape and turn this into a ****ing match.
