This whole deal isn't just going to be a 5 year pause in your current position, it is going to be much worse. If we were just going to be delayed 5 years and proceed normally, it wouldn't be unbearable. It would be bad, but not unbearable. However the reality is worse than that.
If you are like me you have finally gotten the PIC time to move on. Just in time the Majors are recovering, looking at growth, and looking at big retirements. It was to be our moment in the sun, for those of us who have been in the industry and suffered through all the downfalls of the last 6 years. Finally we were going to get our payoff for all the sacrifice.
So what will happen, is while we wait a whole crapload of people are also going to get comptitive for those good jobs. There are going to be a lot more in the military finishing their commitments. More regional guys getting their times. More flight instructors moving up. The retirements will still happen, just 5 years later. So now when we get to that point we are going to be competing with a whole lot more people than we are now. This could very possibly keep someone from reaching that Major airline. You might be good enough to be the 1 in 20. Are you good enough to be the 1 in 200?

No, you should have gotten into the industry earlier. We shouldn't change the rules to make life better for the late starters. I am in my early 30's and this has been my career since my mid 20's. I have made aviation my life and now I am going to be slowed down in my progression, just when things were about to get good. So, while I do not begrudge you the opportunity, I don't think it is necessarily polite to rub it in our faces. Thanks.
Your mamma did not teach you a fundamental thing about life, that is that
things do not always happen just because you want them to. I have always waited for the opportunity for me to move on. Various reasons, family, hardships, financial, was such that the opportunity never came to fruition until now.
So basically, with your Hitler youth mentality, you are telling me that for whatever reason, that because I am 49 I have to suck it up?
What prized outfit gets the honor to have you as a pilot?
Pray tell, Because that is one that I will truely avoid.

Muushin, from the bottom of my heart, go screw yourself. I feel no pity for you and your late start. I said I do not begrudge you the opportunity, but I do not understand the attitude. You are going to be presented an opportunity. You should be thankful to have it. No need to bring my momma into it because honestly, if we were face to face you would be collecting your teeth from the floor. I am as polite and understanding as I can be on this board. I always enjoy debate, but I always try to keep it civil, we are afterall adults. However you have found it necesary to add insult, call me a Hitler Youth, and make it personal. So personally I hope your old ass medicals out. Good luck.
And yes, because you are 49 you have to suck it up. When you figure out how to go back in time you can change things. Until then you have to deal with the realities of your life.

explain to me how you are right and that you are added 5 years at the top of the pay scale. you will be delayed for the next 5 years in getting their. that's 5 more years at your relative current position before you get to start moving up again.
example currently 30 year old going to a major has 30 years at that major. now add a 5 year wait and he gets hired at 35. he still has 30 years at a major it's just 35-65. if you are an fo at a major you will be an fo for 5 more years before up grading.
please tell me how you see it differently because I don't. everything will just take 5 years longer to get to that top flying position...

If I have a choice it is to help others, that is what we should do, as people,
more so, as professional pilots.
Oh yeah, by the way, someday you'll be 49 also.

Hey, I am not telling anyone to do anything, circumstances beyond my control are such that I am a late starter. I do not judge others, therefore, I do not want to be judged.

more so, as professional pilot.

I Know what I could do to you if the opportunity presented itself, your mamma aside, Bet I hospitalize you first?
By the way, if all you can do is rant and threaten people, take your ***** ass flame bate somewhere else.
and until we meet, stop posting your worthless threats, I for certain am not scared of you, and deal with me when you meet me, (face to face) I will let you take the first swing, kick, or whatever they taught you at HITLER CAMP.
In the meantime, don't beleaguer this room with your idle threats you flame bait mammas boy.

You're right, you aren't...and I'm not telling you to do anything, either.
Amen!
Nothing against "non-young" people, but gawd don't I know it!
