Comair updates?
On a side note....the line holders that ratified the current pilot contract with some of the worst reserve work rules in the industry are now being governed by said work rules. I guess sometimes there is justice.
The way the company was doing it before, if you were a 17 year CA you wouldn't be able to bid at all, because you weren't in the displacement line of fire. Now that same 17 year guy can bid to go to JFK on his own and therefor hold a line vs. stay in CVG and be on reserve.
This could change things. It's only fair though. That's the way the contract was written.

I don't see how running the bids the way the contract states will change the end result, but at least it is being done the correct way.

If you listen to the financial cost savings target they are now looking for at the completion of this year it makes you wonder how it's possible. Needs to be up near 35 or 36 million dollars. Somehow I don't see us getting anywhere near that with what this move to JFK is going to cost the company.

I can already see how this is going to go down this summer…
You were lucky enough to get a late afternoon report time, but since it is New York City Airports, traffic and the forecast of afternoon thunderstorms, you decide to get on the first flight out of CVG. So, you get up at the butt crack of dawn and head to the airport to list yourself on standby or the jumpseat. Unfortunately, someone has already reserved the jumpseat 3 days prior on the 50 seat regional jet operated by Comair or Freedom Air. You get to the gate and see a line of passengers with crewmembers in uniform with gold and silver stripes and a guy with a jetBlue uniform. Most of them are Comair guys that have been with the Company for 15+ years and are on top of the standby list. You decide to burn an S2, but you have only been with Comair for 8 years (as an FO), and you are still considered junior and don’t move up much on the standby list. Doesn’t matter, the flight is oversold by 15 people, also Comair crew scheduling is deadheading 5 pilots and 3 FAs to JFK, taking up an extra 8 seats. (You know this is going to happen!!). The jumpseat is worthless, since the flight will be weight restricted due to extra fuel for weather and heavy bags of connecting international travelers. The flight is done boarding, and a heard of crewmembers is left behind. The smart commuters have already left earlier and tried to 2 leg-it to JFK via PIT, CLE, CMH or DCA. You know decide to try for the later LGA flight in order to use the commuter clause. You have already discussed sharing a cab with other crewmembers from LGA to JFK when you get there. The LGA flight is delayed now due weather moving into NYC, with a wheels up time 1.5 hours from now. You have been at the airport for 4 hours already trying to get to work. You start to realize that when you get to JFK, you still have to fly 3 legs. You finally make it to JFK just in time for your report. By this time you are already tired and fatigued and don’t feel like flying anymore. You say screw it and call scheduling to call in fatigued. But wait, you don’t have a crashpad, so you are going to sleep in the JFK crewroom with 85 other pilots, but all couches are taken, so you decide to sleep on the floor. After a 45 minutes nap on the floor, you say screw it and walk into the Chief Pilots office to give him your 2 weeks notice. The End.

Have a good weekend!
