What really bugs me about the whole situation at Comair is my favorite comment "if you dont like it leave". In any other field in the United States you can leave one company, and use your prior experience to possibly get you the same or better job with another company. Thats not the case with the airlines. I cant go from a 8 year captain position at Comair making 70K or whatever they make a year, to an 8 year Captain position at ASA making 70K a year or better. If this industry had a national seniority list, Comair would have 20 employees right about now. What father and husband could afford to do that to his family? So knock it off with the you dont like it leave comments.
What bugs me are people who claim that the ups and downs of this industry caught them by surprise. You should know what your getting into when you signed up for it. The "Glory Days" the senior crust b1tch about are long gone. Things could change but until then you have to make the best of what is available. And if you can't, go do something else rather than b1tch and moan of this industry.
As for the husband or father who can barely make it, well the pay rates have been around for a while. They should have realized that it is going to be rough for a while. Even if they LOVE to fly, sometimes you have to sacrifice it and go do something else so you can provide for your family.
I DO NOT support the crappy work rules, low pay rates, and other things that can be a negative towards the profession and agree that things need to change, but I also knew what I signed up for when I got into it.
rant over.....

So people who recognize that the system benefits managment more than pilots and debate whether the system should be fixed should just be quiet? I'm not trying to be picky, but I never understood that logic.
If that were the case this country shouldn't ever pass another law. Hey, you knew what the deal was when you got here/born here.

I agree.....if you don't like it and it benefits everyone then ***** and fight to get it changed.
Youre missing my point. I didnt mention it but I was referring to the rest issue article that came out and everyone saying if you dont like flying tired then quit. This is where the issue is, not so much with pay. I knew what the pay was, however I didnt think the company would schedule me for 8 hours rest and expect me to fly 8 hours the next day. After all, that is not the way the FAA says it should be done. We shouldnt have to quit because a company violates the FAR's daily. And we cant quit because of the pay issue. For everyone saying, there is nothing I can do. There is plenty you can do, but its your attitude that makes them think there is nothing you can do. If everyone unites and says we have had enough, it can change. But its people like you that will never let that change. And yes, I am furloughed and I will not go back to flying. Im not sure what im going to do, but im done with part 121.

The being scheduled for 8 hour issue is an interpretation of the FAR that is being interpreted wrong by the company. It is not a clear violation per say, however thats something that the FAA has said should not happen. But it is. And we all know 8 hours of rest isnt really 8 hours of sleep. The FAA and company are to fault. We just need to light the fire under their ass.

Could you imagine if there was a Full Blown Representative mailing campaign? If EVERY Pilot emailed EACH of thier State Representatives Every Single Opportunity they had?
I bet that:
1) ATP requirements would increase Keeping the rif raf out of the industry.
2) Duty time Regulations would improve drastically.
3) The Whipsaw Bull that Regional carriers endure would END.
We have a Dem in the WhiteHouse, Dems all over Congress, and a favorable FAA administrator......
IT must be because we have ALPA that we cant seem to get any positive changes accomplished.
