The Comair strike was the dumbest work stoppage in history? Uhhh are you on, or have you ever smoked crack?
Those guys and gals were ballsy and vaginasy(not a real word, I know)to do that. I strongly disagree with your assertation that it was dumb. Do you realize for the level of money invested into the education and that horrid pay, that those folks that were a part of that strike were getting sodomized?!!!

Just wondering, after reading the latest ALPA rag (I had to go potty and there was nothing else to read), for those that will still be at Comair when the contract negotiations start:
How many of you think the pilot group will take concessions?
How many think that the MEC will cave to management?
How many of you think that the pilot group will get ANY concessions on the part of management?
How many of you think that the pilot group will get ANYTHING close to what they gave away to management during the bankruptcy?
If promised anything, how many of you think management will just renege on their promises anyway?
How many of you have made origami swans out of your ALPA ragazine?

Just wondering, after reading the latest ALPA rag (I had to go potty and there was nothing else to read), for those that will still be at Comair when the contract negotiations start:
How many of you think the pilot group will take concessions? Sounds like none...but I would say there is possibly 15-20% mostly in the top part of the list that might consider it. Personally, anything less than a decent raise and I'm willing to strike.
How many think that the MEC will cave to management? I hope they won't, I haven't heard really much from them to formulate an opinion either way. I do all except the MEC chairman are back on reserve and have been downgraded...so that will hopefully make them a but more red-a$$ed and fight for better reserve rules and for FO pay.
How many of you think that the pilot group will get ANY concessions on the part of management? I think it is going to be a long bitter battle...they don't have to give us anything as there are other groups that will do the job for less money.
How many of you think that the pilot group will get ANYTHING close to what they gave away to management during the bankruptcy? I don't think we will, hopefully RAH can get some decent gains in their contract to give us some momentum. Not sure when Mesaba goes into negotiations (APC says Jan 2009, but I'm not sure that is right), but it would be nice if we could pull both groups together and bargain together and essentially get the same...that will help cut some of the whipsaw.
If promised anything, how many of you think management will just renege on their promises anyway? We need Iron clad resere and schedule language with specific spelled out penalties...They have proven that they shouldn't be trusted.
How many of you have made origami swans out of your ALPA ragazine? Can't say I ever read it, usually goes in the garbage with the junk mail.

Our CA rates are pretty much on par with the other carriers, but unfortunately for us it seems the company has the FO's in the cross hairs. They can afford it, I refuse to go down to where some other carriers are in terms of FO rates, they need to come up industry wide (I'm not expecting much of a pay rate increase though), but even more so we need better reserve rules (I'm not currently on reserve, but it is always just a breath away here)...I'm willing to walk for that alone,.

If we were all so ballsy and vaginasy, why did we take a pay freeze for nothing. The strike was a waste of time. I came to Comair in 1998 and left in 2008, so I saw the good and the bad. The strike did nothing but **** Daddy D off. The strike lasted 89 days, the strike insurance was 90 days. Gains were not worth the effort. When they gave me the alpa pin with the star, I dumpped it in the trash. And for what it is worth, I personally thought things were worse in the years after the strike.
I can see your point and Big Daddy D lied to the pilot group to get those concessions in that they lied, promised something, and didn't deliver. I hope I'm right on that.

That all be said, we are really going to be in a tough spot. Not sure if them pulling planes would violate the status quo, but then again it would take so long to battle it in the court 50% us would be unemployed.

I know it could never happen, given the upper 20% with their "job security", and others with their insecurity, but I wonder what delta (yes, little d...you don't deserve a big D) would do if everyone at Comair just walked. First of all, they would be in shock. Second, I don't think they could replace to lift easily. And Comair would never be able to weather the event. Sure, you can say you could replace pilots, but not quickly enough, especially captains.
I held a line most of the time at Comair, except the last 2 weeks before furough. My last flight at OH was 1/12/09. I still showed up for RR the last few weeks ( a 3 hour commute). As I sat in the crew lounge those last few days, I looked around and my honest thought was "What is wrong with us, with this profession? We sleep on couches, with little blue blankets, missing our family life, missing the important things in our family's life...for what? 50 year old captains, making XX a year, sacrificing so much in life to work here. Why?"
I still don't have an answer. There are many jobs that pay more, don't need so much education and recurrent training, and are more stable. I love to fly, but really, is it worth it?

Thanks for your insightful input. It is nice to have honest/thought out answers.
